Proactiv

Sooo.. I'm in my 20's and I STILL deal with acne. There is not a time that my face is 100% clear... and it's saddening to meeee.

I've tried everything. Right now I'm using Noxema, and a oatmeal and honey exfoliator, along with a toner I believe it's by Neutrogena or Ponds (I can't remember). And an eyecream from L'oreal and a moisturizer by Avon.

I was wondering if anyone has tried Proactiv because I'm considering purchasing it to see if it works... I mean if you can see my photo my skin is NOT the worst but its by far NOT the best.

I've heard mixed reviews on Proactiv.. and some rave about it, some say that it is bad for your skin long-term, or that it didn't work at all.

So I figured I'd ask my fellow Beautylishers ~! Soooo what do you guys think!?

Oh! I forgot to add... if you have a recommendation, I'd love to take it as well for a different product! =D

I would avoid proactiv I used it a lot in my teen years but when I got in my twenties all it did was contribute to making my skin a hot mess. It dried out my face badly and after awhile it just stopped working all together. For the money you can get products that work better and don't cost as much. I'm now using Ocean Salt and Angels on bare skin from Lush and I love them I have not found anything better for my skin and after I stopped using proactiv I went through a ton of stuff trying to find anything that would help. So I would say steer clear because in the end its so not worth the money.

When proactiv first came out I tried for the one pimple I had on my face and the next thing I know I ended up with really dry skin and a ton of white heads and break out on my face so I sent it right back to proactiv. I never had a problem with acne until a couple of years ago which I believe mine is caused due to stress. I notice when I am not stressed out my face will clear up. I believe in some cases if you can pin point what causes your breakout it will give you a better chance at how you need to treat your breakouts. I say that because when I am stressed out no matter what products I use it does not make my face clear up but the soon as I stop stressing my face clears up with no problem.

I also use the african raw black soap and lately have been using noxema products. The noxema foaming face wash has helped the couple of pimples I get.

Thank you ladies for the reviews....I've never had bad acne, but my Mom started me on the Clinique 3 step when I was 13. (so thankful she did!) Well that decision came after I decided to use Noxzema for the first time, the night before yearbook pictures...to find out I am really allergic to something in it. But the past few years have been curious if Proactive would be better....but after reading your responses, I think I'll stick to Clinique. :D Happy New Year to all you ladies!

I would skip Proactiv. I did use it before but eventually it stopped working & I had a bad experience with the service. The last time I used the system I canceled my account but a month later got charged for the most expensive system they offer (90-day). Plus most of their products contain paraben.

I swear by proactiv. When I was first diagnosed with schizophrenia I wound up in a mental institution and all the stress from losing my job, hallucinations and be confined to tiny locked spaces not to mention the cocktail of drugs I was on made me break out horribly. I had deep white and black heads all over my face for the 6 months i was in the mental institution. I scrubbed my face raw with the handsoap in the bathroom because there was nothing else to wash my skin with. by the time i got out of the mental institution my skin was a leathery zitty mess. My sister gave me the proactive system and my skin cleared up within 2 weeks. I still use it to this day, check out my profile picture, I maybe wearing make up but you can still see how smoth my skin is. I do not get acne at all anymore.

I think I am having a burning reaction to it. The few problem blemishes I had dissapeared immediately but every other part of my skin burned horribly. :(

The proactiv system did very little for my skin. It took away the redness but I was still breaking out. However, I love the mask!! When I use it on my face the night before, my pimples are noticeably reduced in size and redness. It makes my skin glow. It is kind of pricey though, but I've seen sulfur masks at drugstores now.

try the oxy face wash. It has worked for me its drying and it can "burn" a bit but it gets the job done

Toner, meeh. Other products, too harsh for my skin. My face felt a little bit tingly, and somewhat of a burning feeling... And itchy.

Proactiv really isn't that good. The only things they have that are worth it are the Deep Cleansing Wash which is for the body, and the Green Tea Moisturizer, which is fantastic. I prefer Murad more than anything else though. Murad is the best brand ever, and it seriously did a complete 180 on my skin. You won't regret trying it!

Proactiv doesn't work. A lot of my friends and I have switch to Somme Institute's product line. They have this technology called MDT5 that allows the vitamins to go 3-4mm deep into the skin to clean and repair. It has helped a lot with my acne and oil control. I highly recommend you looking into it.

Hope this helps :)
