I was just wondering, I've been wanting to do beauty videos forever, but I've always been too scared! Does anyone else feel the same way? Or am I the only scardy cat here :P?

Yes, like NOW hah

I was like that for a long time. I would suggest start putting videos here first! Not only are more people likely to actually see them, but people here are extremely accepting, and won't troll you like on youtube.

I've been uploading on Youtube for a year now and I'm still not 100% comfortable. I think after a while you get more adjusted to doing it and putting yourself out there.

I JUST uploaded my first video like 2 days ago. I decided to do a haul for my first video...there is less pressure and I don't feel the need to look perfect for those. I am a little nervous about doing tutorials since I am definitely NOT a makeup artist and wouldn't consider myself a guru. It's just something I like to do and love to share my looks and thoughts about beauty.
I definitely recommend starting out here first if you are really scared about YouTube. People there can be very harsh compared to the lovely ladies here! Or just start out posting videos on a blog. I say just GO FOR IT!! :)

I only have one video up, my face is nowhere to be seen, and I'm still stumbling for words. I am in no way shape or form shy in person either! There's just something about seeing myself on camera that makes me feel like a jackass! =P

I've been wanting to put videos up too! I don't think I'll ever be doing tutorials anytime soon because I don't think I'm all that knowledgeable about applying makeup. I did put up like one video, and it was this 10-minute long haul of stuff I got from a mall. Not very many views though, maybe 'cuz it was too long. I've been wanting to do reviews on so many products, but too afraid of people thinking my reviews aren't adequate!
But great idea, I think I will just post videos here. I'm glad this community is very supportive.
I'm also scared because when I play back the videos of myself, I notice that my talking isn't very clear; I end up mumbling most of the time. =(

Btw, if anyone is a scared newbie we should link our vids on this post ^^!
Lets support each other I'm gonna upload my video here (is scared) lol

@Wendy
Good luck! I am absolutely terrified of posting anything on YouTube. I've been secretly planning and thinking about it for a while but I really have absolutely no courage and the backlash is even scarier. I feel like it's either a hit/miss situation on YouTube. Either people love you and you become semi-popular or a guru or you remain relatively unknown. Considering how outgoing and fearless I am around people I'm really comfortable with-it's really surprising how something like a website can cause me such grief, haha. Again, good luck!

l feel like its so much more then just personality though!
The technical stuff is all so important, and I'm just figuring out how hard that is to fix up nicely!

Agreed! But I feel like the personality aspect really does play a large role. I mean, who wants to watch YouTube videos of a person with a nasty personality? Despite their talent and skill with makeup, fashion and/or editing, I personally would really be put off if someone was being blatantly rude, stuck up, etc. But then again, there's the case of someone who's really nice and having really underdeveloped makeup, fashion, editing senses/skills. I think that'd throw people off too. Gosh, why can't posting YouTube videos just be easy and not so scary? =)

I posted my first video a week and a half ago. I had been thinking about it for almost a year and I finally got the courage. I now have 18 (I think) videos up and honestly, the more I do, the more comfortable I am. I guess I'm just getting used to the camera. What I was most surprised by is how nice people are. I was worried about jerks but really, I haven't had a single rude comment. I think you only get the jerks when you start having more subbies. Also, I find being honest is a very very good thing. I love it when subscribers are requested to make a video and then they flat out say they don't know how but they'll try to learn. It makes them seem so much more real. So don't worry too much if you don't know how to do something. Just don't pretend you do. Be honest.
Some shameless advertising.... My channel is http://www.youtube.com/user/kcmbeauty I just started so my advice not mean much but I'm always happy to help out. And I'd love to see your channels when you get them started. It IS scary but it's so worth it! =]

I keep wanting to film some reviews on some of the latest products I've purchased and tried for a while... But I just never get to it! Too afraid people will think I don't sound knowledgeable about cosmetics!
Well, I did put one video here on Beautylish finally. It's just a really long haul, so it's not really informative. >_<

After watching myself, I learned that I don't like long videos - gotta keep them short because I bet a lot of people are like me - if it's too long, they'll just kinda skip through the video.

I have uploaded 4 videos. Still afraid. I am afraid to really show my personality because I am a nerd. I mean I just spent the past 10 years of my life working on nuclear reactors, playing video, games and watching anime. I am not really a girlie-girl, I am very different from most YouTubers. So I am afraid that most people won't accept my personality. So the videos are not live but I am working n the courage to do so.

I have uploaded 1 video only. I am trying to figure out the entire editing part. As soon as I could figure it out, I'm going to be doing a lot more. I came out shy, but I am not shy at all in person. Just be yourself and forget you have a camera in front of you.

I always wanted to start making videos too but I just don't know where to begin! And I read through comments on my favorite beauty guru's channels and videos sometimes and I don't know how I would take some of the criticism they get. People on YT are just so brutal!

I've found that editing is mostly playing around I've only done one edited video though... so its not like im an expert :<
But it is very fun =) and I find that whenever I make videos they're never that long o.0
