Nail Polish Wears At Tips/Edges

I always get wear at the tips of my nails in as little as less than 24 hours after applying my nail polish. I use Seche Vite as my top coat and paint the edges of the nails with both the nail polish and top coat. I don't think I do anything that is necessarily overly rough with my hands ... So I'm not sure what I am doing to kill my freshly painted nails so much! And of course once the tips get worn, the rest of the nail seems to follow shortly.

Any tips?

Try different brands of nail polishes! Find a nice long wearing formula for you

I am a nail polish addict and have tried a ton of brands (Zoya, OPI, China Glaze, Essie, multiple "drugstore" brands...). Same deal.

Do you make sure your nails are lotion/oil free before applying? Also, after you wash your hands, wait at least 30 minutes before you apply your base coat (you're using a base coat, right? I recommend CND Stickey) because nails absorb water and then shrink up afterwards when they dry, so if you're painting on plumped-up water-filled nails, when they shrink up, the polish won't be as secure. Hope this helps!

From one Rachel T. to another-- i'm a total polish addict too and have had this same problem. the best thing to work for me was to begin painting my polish and/or top coat over the tip of my nails. it seals my mani and they last for at least 5 days chip free (no matter what brand of polish)!

Definitely make sure that you are using a base coat! (Surprisingly, a lot of females skip this step simply because they haven't really considered it. IT HELPS!). Any kind is good, as long as there's a base coat (just make sure it dries before you apply nail polish). Just like you do, make sure to extend the polish past the nail & onto the edges. I prefer to use Sally Hansen's Strengthening Top Coat (I don't recommend their double-duty one, as I found it became super thick for some reason). Not only does it prevent chipping/fading a lot better, but it gives a high-shine finish, just like Seche Vite (but a lot cheaper). I know there's a hardening formula as well that specifically targets breaking/chipping, so you may want to look into that. Hope it works out!

I use a base coat and still have that same problem- so I feel your pain!! I just repaint the tips and then put on another layer of topcoat :/

So I've discovered my problem is that I've been using my Seche with Zoya which with some research looks like those two have a history of not playing well together. Any advice on the best top coat for Zoya? I love that Seche dries so fast and well. Thanks for the help girls!!

The best top coat for my Zoya is actually the Sally Hansen Mega Shine i the mirrored bottle with the blue cap. It has great shine and dries pretty fast.

Wash your hands and dry them completely before applying the polish make sure there lotion/oil free. Make sure you let your polish completely dry. You might want to try a clear overcoat.

I use Sally's gelous base coat, but I actually use it on top I think it works & looks way better. & lasts so much longer. I used to have that problem but I do lots of cleaning & dish washing etc.
