hey guys I attempted the depotting method so I placed magnets on the shadows and placed them in greeting card tins or cd case
what are your other ideas in DIY Palettes
would you care to share ideas and pics?
besides cd cases and tins what else would you use?

Here's my DIY Palettte. works well and does not fall out!

The shadows are not all depotted but worked nicely.

I depotted all my MAC eyeshadows and purchased from TKB WHOLESALE and got a couple freelance palettes and round magnets. they also sell square ones and they are sooo cheap! i did a blog review, they are amazing!

Love it! do you think the wet n wild icon shadows will all fit there Ashley?
Great review. how much was it with shipping cuz the Z palette is kind of expensive.

Ashley would a wet n wild whole icon palette fit there with a magnet? without depotting them? this will help me decide

I purchased 4 palettes($18) and a blending brush and my total was $24 and some change shipping isnt to bad and the magnets are alot stonger in these palettes than the Z Palettes! i can hold them upside down and shake and nothing falls out! the magnets they sell are just like MACs as well and they are $1 for 6 and it goes up from there.

i dont think it would hold the wet n wild palette without depotting them. i only purchased these because my MAC 15 slot palettes always break and these are thicker and made for depotted shadow.

Hope that helps hun!

AHHH! Ok. thank you so much! this helps a lot. If you have any clue on how we can make the icons into a palete without depotting them please please let me know.
but how many wet n wild depotted would fit in your palette?

they are smaller than the mac eyeshadows and square so more than 9 shadows! i fit 9 MAC shadows so having square ones in a square palette would be able to fit more!

hmmm ok. oh i just folllowed you and please feel free to submit an eye look to my blog:)
thanks for your tips Ashley!

oh ok thanks hun!

I'm going to Michaels tomorrow and Hobby Lobby to see what they have that can be turned into a makeup palette. I have a few colors that I want to group together into it's own palette.

I know Lowes sells flat magnetic strips but not sheets. Anyone know where to get the sheets from? Since I'm going to Michaels and Hobby Lobby tomorrow I'll check there as well.

@ Yasmin. how did your palettes turn out? got pics?

Ok, so here's the latest on my DIY palettes.

I went to Walmart and bought 2 clear bead boxes. The boxes were $7 each and contain round container to hold beads. I can't recall the lady here at Beautylish that posted her own pics of her palettes using those bead boxes from Walmart.

At Hobby Lobby I bought Adhesive Magnetic Sheeting, it comes in a roll and costs $9.99. http://shop.hobbylobby.com/products/adhesive-magnetic-sheet-495754/

I haven't finalized it yet because I wasn't happy with the dry run but here's what I've done so far.

I cut the magnetic sheet to the inside dimensions of the box and dry fitted it. I discovered that this wasted way too much space. If the items I had were loose pigments then the jars would be filled and that would be that but I'm making one for pressed eyeshadow pots.

What I plan on doing is buying thin plastic - like you would use at glass replacement in picture frames - and attach another magnetic sheet and either cut finger holes out OR in between the plastic and magnetic sheet put ribbon handles to pull the "tray" up and out.

At this time I don't know if I can fit two or three trays into the box. I know I can fit at least one.

I'm debating to either using glass/plastic paint and paint the bottom of the box OR decoupage decorative paper inside.

I have to head to Hobby Lobby tomorrow to get the plastic for the trays along with Mod Podge in case I do want to go the latter route.

So far the project cost is:

$7 per craft/bead box (I bought 2)
$9.99 for the magnetic sheet (I used a 40% off coupon though)

Mod Podge costs about $5 and I have no idea how much the other stuff will cost me. I may just end up going to the Dollar Store and buy a picture frame with the plastic instead of glass and use that instead. I'll have to measure the box to see if it'll work though.

Ok, so my palette idea fell through. The box is too big but I kept the box and the jars that came with it for my loose pigments that I'm ordering from TKB & Fyrinnae. Sooooo.... instead I'm ordering this:

30-Pan Empty Palettes Case
$11.99 US

I love how inexpensive the empty palette cases are.

wow great find yasmin

i just took my eyeshadow dividers out of my stars makeup haven 28 eyeshadow palette and it holds well over 40 eyeshadows now! its bonkers! i did the same thing to my MAC palette and it holds up to 26
starsmakeuphaven 28 magnetic palette was $15.00 and is the same size as the 28 neutral palette by CS/BH/SL

So I finally got around to doing the video today. I ended up not buying the 30-pan because the pieces look to be solid plastic unlike the 15-pan where the insert is a piece of foam that was easily removed.
