Best Hair Treatment for Damage Hair

Here's the thing that no one is telling you.

Once your hair is severely damaged there is no cure or treatment to repair. Remember, hair is made up of dead cells and the more processes you do to it the more damaged it becomes.

The hair is comprised of the cuticle (exterior) the medulla and cortex (there are more sections to the hair but those are the three major parts to hair composition). When you color your hair the chemicals penetrate the cuticle and deposit the color into the cortex. When the cortex is damaged as well as the cuticle there is no way to really repair it. The only cure - cutting the damaged sections off. Think of it this way. Your hair cuticle is like a rose bud once you introduce chemicals the bud opens and can never close back up. You can use conditioners and creams to smooth it out but the result is temporary until you need to do it again.

There are at-home "treatments" you can do to help smooth the cuticle back out to help it look better but again there are no miracle products on the market that will repair the hair.

You can do a deep moisturizing conditioner. Lots on the market including Dr. Miracles Damaged Hair Medicated Treatment ($10 at Sally's Beauty Supply), Cholesterol Cream Conditioner ($3 at Sally's), Queen Helene Cholesterol Hot Oil Treatment ($2 at Sally's).

Don't use too much oil products, as recommended above, because the more heavy products you use (and leave in) the more weighed down your hair is going to become which means you'll have to wash your hair more which in turn means your hair will become more frizzy. I love Matrix Biolage but remember, when salons "recommend" things because they mark it up a good deal (often by 50%).

Right now, until you can get the damaged ends cut off over time, you'll need to take very good care of your hair. Don't use the hair dryer on high, don't use the straightener on high. Heat is not your friend right now. Good luck with the hair!

I just got the Moroccan oil hair mask a few weeks ago and I LOVE it. If you have some extra time if you mix a small handful with the Moroccan oil then put it on your hair and sleep with it in a shower cap or just sit with it for a few hours your hair will be REALLY soft and your hair will look healthier and more shiny after :)

You should use a hair mask. One with honey, shea or anything with Vit. E would be good for moisture. You should also really consider a trim. Once the dead ends are gone, the new growth can come. Also, get a good conditioner.

I really recommend using this hair mask or the whole hair treatment called Pro Naturals Moroccan Argan oil system. It's really good for dry hair, and the argan oil protects color so I think you'll benefit a lot from it. I got mine online, if you want I can give you the link or you can look for it on beyas.ca. If it's out of stock then there are some other sites (it tends to be out of stock often). Recommend it a lot!! :D

H'Suan Wen Hua is an amazing hair mask from Lush. It has a smell to it but it will make your hair so soft. For shampoo I would really give Joico K-Pak Reconstruct shampoo and conditioner a try. I've been using it for the past couple of months and it has really helped with my dry tips since I've bleach and colored my hair. Its a bit pricey but worth the money.

Thank you very much for your suggestion, I will check it out! My hair needs help asap!

i have Very Very light blonde hair and when i have to do touch ups or low lights my hair can become damaged because its so sensitive and fine. I use Loreal everpure deep conditioner (comes in a little round green jar) i would use it instead of a conditoner everytime i shower and my hair really bounced back fast! Plus i would do leave in conditioners over night on my ends and shower in the morning and that really helped too!

Plus its like $8 at target which isnt bad and it lasts for awhile!

Just went to the salon a few days ago and found out that my hair was VERY damaged! It was suggested that I buy Biolage Age Rejuvenating Intensive Masque. I've only used it 3 times and my hair is already 50% better. :)

Make sure not to over-wash it! Your hair needs it's natural oils and the preservatives and detergents in your average shampoo strips those away. Deep conditioners, oil treatments, and such will help too!... Paul Mitchel Super Skinny Serum is a reallly nice product to put in after washing that will smooth your hair, enhance it, make it over all prettier and easier to style. You can buy these in small sizes to try out at first but I've been using it for a good.. 5 years now? I LOVE it. Staple product for me. Soooo good. Anyways! I feel your pain! I tried to go blonde once and totally fried my hair and it was awful for a long time. So sorry! Hope i helped!

One thing that is very good for damaged/dry hair is http://www.thebodyshop.co.uk/_en/_gb/catalog/product.aspx?ParentCatCode=C_Hair&CatCode=C_Hair_HairTreatment&prdcode=85033m After a week in the sun with a combination of salt water and not washing hair much, my hair was in a terrible state and I was thinking about cutting most of it off to get rid of the horrible mass. However after one use of this treatment, my hair was soft, smooth and silky ^^ Would recommend it if you want to sort out your hair x] ^^

I have had pretty damaged hair and nothing truly repaired it until it completely grew out. However I swear by the Garnier Fructis "leave in conditioning cream" (I put it in after I am done washing my hair) and the Aussie 3 minute miracle. There is also a great conditioner by loreal, I forget the exact name but it is the natural element one. I don't think they sell it in drug stores but they sell it at Sallys.

My hair is very dry. I colored my hair red two times in the last two months and the hair color looks brassy like my hair color won't stay I need to color it again but I know it going to get worse. What do I do?

Jennifer V.- I had the same problem but much worse. I had red hair, but dyed it way too dark, so I stripped it to blonde in order to put a lighter red in my hair, and that's when my issues started. It was dry and ultra porous, so I had to dye it after every other washing. The roots took and held the color, but my ends could not absorb the red color molecules. I did have success with using manic panic reds underneath whatever red I was coloring my hair. Manic Panic, or other "unnatural" colored hair dyes are vegetable stains and not dyes, so they stain your hair, as opposed to depositing dye molecules. I would dye my hair with Manic Panic's Pillarbox Red or Wildfire, then color over it with whatever boxed dye, or color mixture I actually wanted. This helped the ends from fading and the light brassy colors from peeking through. This is probably something that you wouldn't need to worry about, you seem to be in a much better place than I was.

Color depositing shampoos and conditioners also helped me. I wouldn't use products made for red hair, but ones that deposited red colors when I used it. It is helpful to know the difference or looking for color depositing as opposed to color enhancing products. You can also add red dye to your existing shampoo and conditioner to try to help the fading.

I still had to dye my hair often, while doing these things. I eventually went blonde because keeping up with my ever-fading red was becoming more high maintenance and too much work even compared to keeping up with bleaching dark roots. I know your hair is in much better condition than mine was, so these should work for you, for sure! I would definitely start by researching color depositing shampoos for red hair though, it should do the trick for your hair.

My tip is to cut the dead ends off and then start taking prenatal pills. They make your hair grow fast! But go for something organic. I use Trader Joes prenatal and my hair ha grown soo fast

Any thing by garnier!! There stuff really works!! 😍

I love mixing 1 avocado and equal parts honey and olive oil for a deep treatment 😊leave it on for at least 30 min for it to absorb and even better if you wear a shower cap to trap in the moisture 😃

Theres this good conditioning treatment with argan oil that I used when my hair was damaged. I had read that argan oil helps stimulate healthy hair growth and make hair smooth and shiny as well. So i bought one online called the Pro Naturals Moroccan Argan oil system. So far it has worked really well to strengthen and smooth my hair. I recommend it a lot now!

Bed head treat me right hair mask. It says to leave in for 5 minutes. When I first started using it my hair was so dead I left it in for about 15 or 20 minutes. After rinsing you could already tell it had started to work! I love it because I blow dry and straighten my hair daily and it leaves my hair moisturized soft and less frizzy!
