How do you suppose one of those colors would turn out on already dyed brown hair?
<------ that is my current color
thanks!

if youre using a manic panic dye, it will tint your hair. indoors, your hair will still be dark and possssssssssssibly a bit unnoticeable depending on how dark your hair is, but as soon as your hair hits sunlight, your color will pop. i would recommend using a bright red like pillarbox red if youre using it on dark hair to really get it vibrant. these colors are beautiful by manic panic!

@emily : my hair was dark brown before i decided to go red. i went to a salon to get it done though. i've now been a red-head for a little over a year. i would recommend you go to a salon for the color you want and then you can punch it up with manic panic at home if you want.
what i did was wait a few weeks after my salon touch up and then apply vampire red. it brightens the color back up from the shampooing and fading. i go every 6 weeks religously to get my roots updated or a whole head dye, depending.
I use john frieda's radiant red or sulfate free shampoos. i go to an aveda salon and they have great color depositing shampoos (madder root) but sallys has something very similar for cheaper.
basically, you'll just need a very brilliant red to get your hair the color you want, but it's possible. mine starts out bright after the dye and settles down to a auburn a few weeks in.

does manic panic stain your scalp. i used a pink hair dye on my mom (i forget the brand but not manic panic) & it dyed her scalp hella pink for a few days.

yes it does stain if you accidentally get it on your scalp, but the staining fades in a few days.

ashley, on the back of the manic panic jar it says to keep a certain amount away from your scalp to prevent this if its a concern to you. i usually just wash it out a few times and im fine

I got my hair professionally done last Dec. and dyed my hair red. I literally spent 70$ on a shampoo to help keep the colour in my hair.. and within a few weeks the colour was gone... after that experience I went back to blonde... I wish I had read that awhile ago!

owch... you should re-consider and come into the red world! Haha :)

haha maybe one day... but 300, then to pay for the shampoo.. I can't do that again for awhile.. I'm happy having my normal hair colour!

I've been dying to dye my hair red for a while, however I have dyed jet black hair, is there any way that I can remove the black and go red without having to go to a salon or is the salon my only option without damaging my already thin/fine hair?

I've been wanting to go red for a while but I don't think it would look good on me. I have very pale skin but it has alot of pink under tones in it. I never wear reds or Oranges and very rarely wear pink because it makes my skin look pinker lol. :(

sara - totally agree with your post. it sounds just like me! i don't bleach mine but go to the salon for the most vibrant, perm, red they have. I use manic panic in Vampire Red between dyes to keep it vibrant! I'm thinking about trying a mix of pillarbox red and vampire red next time. have you tried mixing them before? I also like the amplified versions of manic panic better, because it seems to be more bright and last longer

oh, and @sara: i saw the picture with the purple haze. i've been wanting to have some purple in my red hair but am worried it will be difficult to go back to red from purple. what was your experience with this?

I had fun going red.. it's just such a pain to go back to blonde now! Red is so stubborn!!

I just went red and am considering using that tip of using semi-permanent dyes to pump up my color. Kinda concerned that it will stain my clothes though. Any advice?

I also get questions on my hair color all the time (along with girls who point and ask their parents if they can dye their hair this color - I always feel so bad for the parents!) and the one thing I warn people about is that it's not just color loss in the shower: my sheets, pillowcases, and towels are all pink because I got tired of them getting stained by color and decided it was better if they just started off that way!
