How much money does the average person take to IMATS to spend on makeup? I want to go this January for the first time and I'm curious how much money to save.

As much as you can. There are so many booths and so many deals. I also recommend putting it on a pre-paid credit card so you don't have to worry about cash or losing it. Many of the companies had credit card machines via Square or Intuit's credit card reader. Take maybe $100 in petty cash for the concession stand and booths that don't have credit card readers. Depending on if you're a pro or just shopping for yourself you might want to save at least $300 for products alone because it adds up even with discounts. If you're a pro then you want way more depending on what you want to stock up on.
Personally to I took over $400 to IMATS to spend between IMATS, eating, extra stuff (I ended up having to stop at Target to buy a 2nd suitcase) and spent it all. Next IMATS I'm taking $1,200 to spend because there were so many things I wanted to get but held off on because I had only $400 for the entire weekend.

I'm not a pro, just a make up lover. =) If I went, I probably wouldn't be buying anything expensive like brushes, but I want to pick up lots of lashes, pigments, glitters, and shadows. Things I'm not exposed to in my daily life. I was originally thinking like $200, but I guess you're right about saving as much as possible, because there could be something there I wouldn't expect to find and fall in love with.

Like I said it adds up... fast. Some companies have deals like $5 shadows and then have a dozen so that's $60 (plus possible tax as some booths charged tax, some did not). Then palettes, take the Lime Crime palettes, those were on sale for $20 each and they have three so that's another $60. Love Sugarpill? Her stuff was like a little under $9 each and of course she had tax. I picked up five of the LE shadows at $12 each plus tax and it was under $70. Makeup brush sets ranged from as little as $20 and went up to $400 depending on the brand. Save as much as possible because you might think $200 is enough but find that you need twice that because of all the amazing deals ESPECIALLY on items that aren't released to the public or are LE to IMATS.

I really want to check out sugarpill and limecrime! I'll be saving up extra, even if I don't end up using it all. thank you so much!!

I'll probably go to Toronto Imats and it's gonna be my first time too! I'll probably save about 500$ to spend there! For a big makeup lover like me i think 300-500$ is ok. That's not my job so i dont have all colors so that will suits anyone! Take what you need! :)
