How do I treat oily skin

Jul 4, 2012

Sherry W.

Do you moisturize?

As an esthetician, my experience is that there is a nutrition and lifestyle problem behind an oily skin.

What do you eat?
Do you smoke?
Are you stressed?
What do you use for your skin on daily basis? What is your skin routine?
Do you drink enough water?
Do you have pimples, or more black/white heads?
etc.

There are so many questions...

The forehead is related to the nervous system, between the eyebrows to the liver, the tip of the nose to the genitals, the nasal bridge to the stomach, liver, spleen, the sides of the face to the liver and gallbladder. If you have acne on your back it means you have digestive problems.
It doesn't necessarily mean that you have problems there, but there is a big chance.

Possible reasons:

- Digestive problems
- Minor intestinal problems
- Liver problems
- Irregular sleep, stress
- Too much sugar in food
- Irritating hair care product
- Bad tooth
- Too much protein
- The body had enough from the toxics and tries to get rid of them

You can find chemicals in food and in many skin care products as well.

When an acne occurs it means something not good is going on in your body.

Use:

- Algae
- Aloe Vera
- Tea tree essential oil
- Lavender essential oil
- Rose hip essential oil
- Dead see mud

What I suggest:

- drink at least 2L water/day
- detoxify your body, which also means you don't let more poison into your body
- support your gut flora with probiotics (the glut flora is responsible for the immune system)
- take dietary suppliments (natural ones)
- try to cut down sugar (chocolate, sweets, soft drinks, hidden sugars, etc)
- avoid milk, because it contains hormons
- eat more fish
- exfoliate your skin 3 times a week
- use a moisturizer and even facial oil (as I mentioned earlier)
- go to a proper esthetician for a facial
- targeted nutritional intake with clean food
- replace your cosmetic product for non-toxix, chemical free and petroleum free

Use just natural/organic products, or make your own creams and scrubs.

Tonic:

1 cup distilled water, 1 tbsp thyme leaves, 10 drops tea tree essential oil.
In a saucepan bring water to boil. Remove from heat and add the herbs, cover and steep for 30mins. Stir and pour into an empty jar and add the essential oil. Shake it. You can keep it for a week in the fridge. Use cotton pad with 1 tsp of astringent, or more for your back.

Or you can chose from natural and organic brands.

But note that creams can not solve this problem 100%, just if you change your lifestyle.

There are more reasons what could cause acne and black/white heads:

-Not enough essential fatty acid gets to the body
-You don't drink enough water
-Your body can't "bond" the water (The reasons are: hormone problems, or eating too much salt and sugar)
-Digestive problems, what causes black heads especially around the mouth, jaw and chin

Treatments:

Every skin problem could be trace back to nutrition, lifestyle, vitamins and minerals. Believe me. Acnes don't appear without reason and skin works like the kidney: detoxifies. trying to get rid of the toxics. It follows that the key to success is began a thorough detoxication with a radical lifestyle change.

More things to do:

- go to infra red sauna,
- eat meat from a trusted source (not from the supermarket, but let's say from a farm),
- try Retinoic Acid (but it has some side effects and proper use requires strict adherence to instructions provided by a doctor, so first you have to consult with a doctor about it),
- drink Nettle tea (it's very effective and cheap solution to prevent acne),
- use 100% pure tea tree essential oil (put it on your acne),

Home made recipes for acne:

Put 1 tsp calendula tincture in 1 glass of water and with a cotton pad clean your face with this (this is for acne)

And/Or:
Flax seed (Linseed) gel for acne

Ingredients:
1 tbsp linseed
100 ml distillated water
3 drops of lavender essential oil (soothing)
2 drops tea tree essential oil (antibacterial)
5 drops sweet orange essential oil (balance the oil of the skin, lightens spots, but be careful it can be photosensitive)
1 capsule Vitamin E (you have to pierce it)

Method:

Put the linseed in a saucepan with the distillated water and cook it on low heat until it looks like gelatin.
Filter it (you can use gauze)and add the essential oils and the Vitamin E.
You don't have to wash it off.

(You can find this any herbal store, or even online. Just make sure you use 100% natural ones)

Please don't forget: you don't treat oily skin just from outside. If you only treat the skin - suppressing the symptoms - you can reach only a short-term successes.

how do you know that you buy 100% natural products? how can you recognize these products? just because it says 100% natural on the label?

You know it because of the ingredients and because of some logos, like the USDA certified logo which guarantees you the 100% organic ingredients.

If a product says 100% natural, that doesn't mean that it is natural at all. This is why you ALWAYS have to check the ingredients. Here are some articles that help you how to choose natural products:

thank you for your answers !! I've read about argan oil and I bought 100ml but I don't think it is 100% natural argan oil... it says argan carrier oil, has no smell,it's clear yellow..I've used it on my face and neck and it break out...nothing major but still..or it may be from my rose water? I don't know...I try to find the right stuff for my combo skin and to stop all these break outs..can you give me an example of a 100% natural and certified argan oil? many thanks !

If there was no smell of it, then it's not sure if it was real, or it has been deodorized which is not good either....It should just say 100% Argan Oil or 100% Argania Spinosa Kernel Oil (but it's actually a carrier oil) and it smells "nutty". Try to buy it at Josie Maran. More trusted essential oil companies: Mountain Rose Herbs Company, LorAnn Oils, Essential Oils Online.co.uk

thank you all !!! and Dina you're a star ! thanks :)

Aww:) You are so cute Andra!:) But I am just a simple esthetician who believe that "you are what you eat" and I am against the harmful synthetic chemicals. It's my pleasure to help. Go natural!:)

water. Drink water. Your body produces MORE oil when you are low to compensate for the lack of watter. AFTER hydrateing your self well for a WEEK it should get better. If not try Mark. They have a really good oily skin regime. But I recomend useing the whole regime AS INSTRUCTED. not just once in a while. Things tend to work best when you use them accordingly

Dina, I would love to buy from Josie Maran but there is not a safe international shipping...it is not their responsability...I live in UK. do you think the argan oil from this website Essential Oils Online.co.uk is safe? is way cheaper than the oil from Josie Maran..

Andra, I always shop international and never happened anything bad, I always got what I ordered.

What do you mean by safe: The shipping or the argan oil from Essential Oils co.uk?
I think it's fine, but they are not responsible either...

I like to keep it simple for sure. Use a cleanser (like st Ives green tea cleanser), a toner (I love Cliniques) an oil free moisturizer (preferably one that mattes like Clean and Clear mattifying). Also, my esthetician recommended doing a mask of crushed aspirin and water to relieve some oiliness :) try it out!

Oh, and keep blotting papers with you. Boscia blotting sheets are the best and although they look expensive, you get twice as much than the clean and clear ones. And they are bigger. And they have no oil in them :D

What I've ment by safe was if it's not deodorized or diluted...this oil from Essential oils co.uk is a lot more cheaper ..for 50ml you pay 9 punds = 14 $ while at Josie Maran for 50 ml you pay 48$ = 31 pounds. anyway..I know at josie's we pay for the brand but I was just wondering wich oil is best to use it for my face...I just want a clean and healthy skin.. thank you for your answer :)

I see. Try then Now Foods (http://www.nowfoods.com/) or Aura Cacia (http://www.auracacia.com/auracacia/about/sourcingarganoil.html).
They are good and cheap.
Did you check the others that I mentioned before, eg. Mountain Rose Herbs Company?

moisturize even though you dont think you need it, it helps! And drink lots of water and avoid fatty foods! :)

yes I did. I'm not interested in the cheapest product or the most expensive one, I'm interested in quality. I'm trying to find where is the best quality of this argan oil and nobody can confirm that ...it's not about the money. thanks :)

I understand you 100%, I don't want to spend a fortune on those things either, but I want quality at the same time. It's really hard. But Now foods and Aura Cacia are good and the price is ok too.
