i had a really bad encounter with mac. so i DONT recomend this product to any one. Although every one IS difftent and some people have a higher tolerance for it then others. This brand just was not good for my face at all.
I'd say a Z Palette simply because a MAC palette will only accommodate MAC products. What if you de-pot another shadow from a different brand? A Z Palette will fit and accommodate more than just MAC products.
Neither. I love the idea of the Z Palette, but it's too small for the price. I use Makeup Forever's empty magnetic palettes. They are huge and only $10. They hold about forty Mac pans and over 20 large pans (MUFE size).
hands down a z-palette! i have one, and they are so convient! i can fit any sort of eyeshadow i wanna de-pot in them, and they are so pretty! pretty expensive for the size though, wish they made bigger ones.

If you do a full depot of an Urban Decay eyeshadow, they'll fit. The Makeup Geek eyeshadows will also fit. You'll only run into trouble if you want to add a much larger eyeshadow. But even then, you can always remove the insert and make the MAC palette freestyle. ;)
That said, though, if you want a freestyle palette, I'm going to recommend anothersoul on Etsy. Her palettes are STUNNING, IMO, and quite affordable to boot. (I think they start at around $13 USD.)
I second anothersoul. I haven't purchased one yet, but I really want to for when I get other Inglot shadows and don't want to spend on Inglot palette. The designs are amazing and you have so much more room for cheaper.

MAC as they look much sleeker but it's just aesthetics. You can take the dividers out of Mac palettes
