I only use waterproof mascaras, and lately every time I shower they flake off! I know it's not because they're old, I repurchased them about a week ago. I use the Revlon Growluscious and Maybelline The Falsies every day. They used to stay put so well! Maybe the formula of one has changed?
I think that the formula changed and that the water pressure from the shower may have made the mascara come of easier. I used to use the falsies mascara and noticed that has well. Maybe it's time to try some new kinds, the ELF waterproof mascara works really well.
I just bought the new Lash Blast yesterday morning and I've used it already and from first impressions, it's not as good as the Falsies/ it gives a different effect, but it works! I took a shower and everything and no flaking :) It also holds a curl like no other
waterproof mascara is meant to be waterproof, but not rubbing proof! i use maybellines falsies waterproof mascara and it works perfect for me. the only thing is that you cant rub your eyes with as much pressure as you would without any mascara on, the rubbing is what causes the mascara to flake. also make sure the mascara says waterproof and not water resistant.
I don't rub my eyes though, I wear contacts so rubbing is a serious no-no! It flakes off in the shower and I never touch my eyes in the shower, I'm pretty sure the formula changed and it's not as waterproof as it used to be :(
I've got to ask, why you want your mascara to stay on in the shower?
As for the mascara itself.. if you're in the middle of the insane summer heat going on right now, it may be altering the formula. Waterproof mascara relies on wax for longevity, but obviously increased heat & humidity will break that down more quickly than it does in the cooler months.
I don't take my mascara off haha I know it's bad but hey, it works for me
I don't think it's the heat, the place where I live is not that hot, the highest it's been was in the mid 70's and it's been really cloudy.. Kind of a bummer summer..
But taking that into consideration, remember that makeup isn't meant to last for more than a typical day's wear - even if it is longwear/waterproof. It's just supposed to resist fading/smearing and such.. but even the most resilient formulas will eventually be broken down naturally w/ moisture from the eyes and sebum from the skin.

That is happening to me as well when I use Maybeline Falsies :( My Loreal double extend is older than my falsies and it doesn't do that ?
