Hi everyone, my name is Kerry C. from Rochester NY, now applying to beauty school to become a licensed MUA. Got a question. I've identified several markets of clients I want to reach in the long run, but I'm not sure where to start meeting other like-minded MUAs to get their input/find a mentor. Is there a national/regional association of MUA's? and if not, what did you do to successfully network to further your career? Many thanks in advance.
As a MUA myself, I find going to beauty counters/stores and getting to know the people there is great. They give you advice and teach you different techniques as well. Also, go to some beauty trade shows-they are chock full of MUA like yourself and you can make great friends and contacts that way. Last but not least....once you are in beauty school, you will meet people just like you. The people I have met at my beauty school are great and very inspirational and they offer great ideas and contacts. Hope this helps and good luck!!

i agree with Danie. ModelMayhem is an invaluable too; social networking on the whole is pretty amazing. i would also recommend picking up a course at your local learning annex on either theater or photography (or both) as you're likely to meet potential models as well as artists.
