Hi Alex,
It depends what direction you want to go in. What type of artist do you want to be? Do you want to do film, editorial, Special fx? For example, the core of my work is television. After I went to Esthetician school, I continued on with makeup classes and workshops.I made sure to reach out to people in that industry, introduced myself and surrounded myself with the best and learned from them. I have a portfolio now, however, I never had one when I was trying to get work. I asked for a chance that was all. They could send me home if I didnt work out. Well, I was never sent home, I was called back. :) I know there are many opinions on how to break in to the industry, I am not saying mine is the right way. Im just sharing how I became a sucessful working artist doing what I love the most. Hope this helps! :)

Anyone have any tips or suggestions on how to get started? Is working at MAC the place to start?
