I'm a die-hard Bobbi Brown fan. Most of my make-up loot is BB. Some things she is great at while other items are epic fails. Her shimmer bricks for me have been GREAT. They are the best multi-taskers around. I can use them as highlighters, blush, eyeshadow and body shimmer. Her glosses...there is only one that I love..."petal". I just find that I'd rather spend $14 getting MAC glosses that actually last me longer than BB glosses plus they are cheaper. For some reason I haven't been really swooning over her glosses and she has some pretty one's in her collection. I haven't experienced any fails in the blush department. And I have 12 shades. Super pigmented and they stay true to color on my oily skin. Same goes for her eyeshadows. I have about 20 of those and love every single one. Foundation hands down is the best. No oxididation and no breaking out. And one bottle last me a year (though I do rotate). Her lipsticks is where I lose my mind...at last count I think I was at 25-27. Very pigmented and flavorless and unscented. Her concealers and correctors for the eyes....a must have in your collection. That stuff cancels out my dark circles after an all night study fest and it doesn't crease. BB cream shadows are beautiful as well and when I use them I can go without eye primer because her formula is long wearing. Gel liners are great as well.
As far as MAC goes....I have had an even amount of hit and misses. I love their brushes better than BB's line of brushes. The blushes lack dense pigment like there is with BB and I have one that looks great on skin but I literally have to scrap the pan with a needle to really get some color on my brush. While some just require a light hand and I'm good to go. Lipsticks have been hits though with some formulas I need to apply a lip balm prior to application (the mattes and lustres). I haven't had an issue with the eyeshadows. There was maybe one that didn't work but for the most part they have been great. The Paintpots are a complete dream to work with and I reach for those when using powdered shadow in place of eye primer. They really make my powdered shadows pop on my eyes. I've had a lot of misses with the eye pencils and actually had better luck with drugstore dupes. And nail polishes...epic fail.
Basically, both lines are great and it all depends on what looks your trying to achieve and what your pocketbook can handle since one is way more expensive than the other. Sorry its so freakin' long. :)
