I loved cosmetology school. I learned everything there is to know in the beauty industry - hair, skin, and nails. One drawback is taking courses youre not interested in or wouldnt do career wise. Like, nails was a pain in the ass. I cant do gel or acrylics my life depended on it so i wouldnt want to be a nail technician, but I still learned a lot so I'm able to care for my own nails at least. Another drawback is being in an environment full of girls, its inevitable that drama will stir one way or another. So my advice? If its something you really want to do go for it and do it for you. Screw the competition and negativity cus trust, there will be some of that in beauty school. Good luck hun!
And yes it will better your chances of landing a job in the industry if you go to school. It shows you have basic training in the area of expertise. The more you know the less they'll have to teach you themself.
I went to the Aveda Institute to learn cosmetology. I didn't lean a ton about makeup, but we did spend a week training on makeup. It's a very small part of the course. In most cases, it would be helpful to have a license if you want to work as an artist in a salon. It's also beneficial to know hair and makeup, even if your goal is to become a MUA. Some clients/agencies/photographers will be more willing to work with you if you know both trades. But also keep in mind that cosmo school is a huge expense, especially considering that you don't "need" it to be a makeup artist.
I am going to start school soon i plan on learning alot.. i think its best to go to school because you will learn and meet new ppl.. that way you will be able to branch out more ^_^ GOOD LUCK BEAUTY!!!!
Yes, its wise. You are always better off with a college degree, getting well educated is the smartest move. Don't let finances get in your way. Hence "paying bills" and having "debt" is a part of life.
i think it would be good if you're planning on working as a makeup artist, beauty related.. cause people look for one with higher education than one with no educations at all. but if you want to learn for your own good then don't waste your money, you can learn everything on youtube these days for free! i hated the fact that my ex boyfriend pushed me to go to beauty school to 'learn how to do my makeup' when i have been learning my tricks etc off youtube..
Cosmetology school is a good general school for learning many beauty trades - sometimes u think u love makeup but when u learn about hair may love that even more - i am a makeup artist and i work in the industry. Its helps to go to makeup school but the knowledge i gained from cosmetology school helped me greatly as well. I attended both makeup and cosmetology schools and they were the best investments of my life
I believe it would be better to go to school just to inprove your self and to do your best at what you like to whether it be hair, make-up, or even nails. I my self plan to go to school in the near future, Good Luck Too You All !!!
I'm thinking about taking a makeup artistry course eventually.. I know some people don't go to school but would it increase my chances of being successful, or help provide more experience?
There are schools dedicated to teaching makeup artistry ONLY. If you're wanting to go to cosmetology school just to learn makeup, I honestly don't think investing in cosmetology school is your best bet. I have friends who go & they've told me you only learn about a small portion of makeup artistry, everything else is mainly hair, skin, & nails. There are schools that teach makeup artistry where you can get certified in a week, plus it's way cheaper than going to cosmetology school. You don't necessarily need to be certified to become a MUA but it doesn't hurt to go to school. There are MUAs who are self taught & are very successful in the industry. Just do some research & see if they are any schools in your area that just teach makeup artistry.
I went and I hated it to be honest. Cosmetology covers many subjects, and some of them I wasn't the best at. Often I was very depressed going to class because I couldn't get the hang of some things (Acrylics) I finished but yeah..Definitely hated it.
I know someone who went to cosmotology school, and yes it is wise. But you have to pick a good one. This person wasnt doing alot of things right and the instructor never said what she was doing wrong. She thought she was doing it right, then she failed and had waisted money

It is a wise decision but depending on where you live you might not be able to transfer your license.
