One thing that has helped me when doing male makeup is using an herbal-based clear chap-stick for lips. It isn't nearly as shiny as everything else. I usually carry the one made by Blistex in a green tube in my kit. Another thing that helps is MAC's Matte Cream. Great for applying over makeup where needed without getting the powdery look.

Hey Danielle, we think a clear mascara always makes a little magic. If you want to make the eye pop even more try a dab of eyeliner on the lower eyelid!
On men who wanna look "edgy" black eyeliner is great! You can smudge it up a bit with some gloss. Use reddish browns around the eyes and use gray shadow to fill in the beard if its has missing areas!!!! xoxox
One thing that many ppl over look is that as a makeup artist - your biggest money maker is making a face look fresh as if there really is NO makeup on. This is especially true for male clients. All of the above advice is awesome- but make sure to focus on the imperfections he may have going on- I.E. Razor burn on the neck- is a big one! Practice on masking these small unsightly parts of life, and you will become invalueable in the eyes of any photographer!
