When I tried foundation on at the store (it's Revlon's Colorstay for Combonation/Oily Skin in 310 Warm Golden) I thought it looked fine. You couldn't really tell that I had foundation on. When I put it on at home just to make sure it looked okay in different lighting it still looked fine, but when I got into my car and checked my face it looked too dark for me so I took it off because I thought I looked ridiculous. When I have this foundation on and I'm inside it looks normal, but when I'm outside you can tell I have it on because my face is a totally different color. This is my first time in wearing liquid foundation and I'm wondering if I'm doing something wrong or if there's any tips or tricks to finding the perfect foundation?
Suggestions are greatly appreciated!
If you can, do your makeup in natural light. How your makeup looks in sunlight, and how it looks in the artificial lighting of your house or the store, as you've noticed, can be very different.
Next time you're at the drugstore/Walmart/Kmart/Target, buy the next shade down (Golden Beige); if you go to a drugstore where they have some sort of BOGO deal on Revlon (e.g., BOGO free or BOGO 1/2 off) get that shade and Medium Beige (same undertone but lighter than Golden Beige) if you can. Then try both on your jawline and go out in the sun to see which is a better match. (Part of me wishes US drugstores had testers or foundation samples available. Sigh.)
Revlon Colorstay is known for oxidizing, it looks perfect when you first put it on, then it gradually gets darker and darker and it's embarassing :x
I agree with Shelly about getting the next shade down. :)
Thanks Elizabeth :) I'm really thinking about going back to Ulta and have one of the girls help me find the perfect (not expensive) foundation for me so I don't have to go through this anymore lol :3
you could be putting to much on. make sure to really even it out and blend it. you dont really need a lot of product with the colorstay line. i always do my makeup in front of my mirror, and it really helps a lot :) also remember to blend some foundation down into your neck to help even everything out. hope this helps!
@Autum: I don't think I'm too much on. I've putting it on with my fingers and then with a sponge pad but both times it looks the same. I could be wrong though.
@Rikki & Autum: Hahahahah, I've tried just taking a mirror and looking but it still looks too dark, I think my foundation is probably too dark for me? Because there is a dratic change from how I look when I'm inside doing my make up and when I walk outside :x
You should try MAC, its only a few dollars difference from this drug store foundation your using & wasting money on, take that back for a refund then take your money to MAC for a way better foundation that won't change colors on you. It wouldnt hurt to try it, right? if you end up not like the MAC foundations, they will refund you. But i think you will like it better.
^^ not true for everybody, it depends on your skin tone & everyone is different. I use MAC Matchmaster & don't have any problems with it. I also use Nars Sheer Glow, Make Up Forever Face & Body, Chanel and Dior Nude. These are what i recommend you should try. If you want good makeup, you have to kick it up a knotch, just my opinion ;-)

The car ALWAYS makes my face makeup look darker than it is so don't listen to what your car mirrors say, hahah.

MAC Matchmaster is awesome ^^ . Its great especially if you will get a bit tan. It has pigments that will adjust to your skin's intensitiy level.
