yes all the time I will always do a look on myself before a job and on one other person my sister or whoever will let me barrow there face. Mine always comes out better to me.And I have a theory about this topic. Not that I do bad work on others I really think it is just because I know my face, the condition, undertones, color, pores. I work on this canvas all the time(my Face) I know what will work on it and what wont. I guess I would explain it like playing a sport and having the home team advantage. You know the field, the layout and all.
like amanda said, you know your face structure better than anyone else. you are able to do stuff to your own face that other people probably cant. it's only natural for you to be much more confident in doing your own makeup than doing others. just keep practicing and it will get easier doing makeup on other people :)
I'm like that too at times, it just takes a lot of practice :) You know your face inside and out but everyone has different skin types and conditions so it's normal to not know EXACTLY what to do on them. Plus, you might be judging yourself a bit harsher when doing other clients compared to doing makeup on yourself! It just takes a lot of practice.
I thought it was just me lol I want to do makeup for others, but when I just do a friend or family member I get so nervous it won't come out right. I don't want them to think that I'm not putting as much effort into their makeup if it doesn't look as nice as mine. And most of my friends don't realize that it is harder to do someone else's makeup. I think the key is just practice, but I still get super jittery

practice over and over youll get those skills going and eventually be able just to look at someone and know what they need and how to get them there.
