Ok... Is there some type of trick to getting a nice thumbnail on YouTube videos... I see so many ppl with nice thumbnails that make you curious and actually want to watch the video! I feel like YouTube always picks the worst thumbnails for me and i was wondering how is everyone else getting these bomb thumbnails lol..??
Well you can add the photo to the end and have it there for like 5 minutes and possibly use that. I see people do that a lot. but other than that, you need to be partnered. uploading your own thumbnail is one of the perks of a partnership. If you aren't partnered you cannot upload your own thumbnail.
First you have to be a partner which now everybody can be (you just have to have one video on your channel approved for ads and you're considered partner). But not all partners get to choose their thumbnails. Ads is the first step for partnership. Getting to upload the thumbnail of your choice is the second step and having a banner the last one. The option will show up when youtube find that your channel is big enough (and brings enough money to them) to allow you getting it.
When I couldn't choose my own thumbnail here is what I did : I put a picture of my choice at the end of my tutorial running for 2 or 3 minutes (when my videos were about 6 to 7 minutes- the picture should represent at least 1/3 of your video length) and then the picture would show up as a thumbnail choice proposed by youtube (as you have 3 choices). And no it's not because you're partner that you get a thumbnail. Youtube changed their rules so now everybody can be a partner as long as your channel is approved for ads on at least one of your vid. Hope this helped ! :)
I really wish I could help out .. But my option just popped up like a couple days ago I swear I'm not hiding the secret answer! Lol but pretty much what Claire said because I've researched
That shyt and everything she mentioned is pretty much what I've found ..

I think once you have so many videos or if you've had your channel for so long, then you have the option to choose a custom thumbnail to upload.
