Overwhelmed!

Lately I've been thinking of tossing most of my collection except for a few items because I'm so overwhelmed with what I have! I was thinking of throwing out all the trendy things and sticking with the basics, and just investing in what I know I wear. I have a lot of random colors and things I just don't wear but can't bear to part with for whatever reason.

Do any of you ever get overwhelmed by your makeup hoarding? What do you do about it? One day I hope to be able to fit my collection in a medium sized makeup bag, right now it takes up every spare spot I have in my vanity! Anyone else have the same problem?

im so sorry your feeling overwhelmed!

but I don't recommend throwing it away!
What I would do is buy a container with a lid and place on the items in there that your don't normally wear and tuck it away. You never know when you might need that blue or green eyeshadow!

That way all the makeup you feel comfortable wearing on a day to day basis fits comfortably at your fingertips where your get ready!

hope that helps!

Yes I agree don't throw away! Organise all products into containers or drawers that way you know exactly what you have and where it is! I have a large collection and keep meaning to organise as I buy a lot of shades an products I already have! Keep them clean and organised and you will feel more in control of your make up collection.

I get overwhelmed!!!! But I can't find myself throwing it away!! You should definitely find a storage solution and get organized. Shadesofkassie on YouTube does a weekly makeup basket and I started doing that too! So every Sunday I put all the makeup I want to use for the week with a few options to change between days. I change it every week and have found that this is helping me be able to use all my makeup =}

Just like Yesenia said I can see you getting overwhelmed but don't throw it out you will regret it target and Walmart have really cute little storage containers that I decorated myself so cute and you could look up DIY videos on YouTube to see more cute cheap ideas on how to store it! Good luck

Don't throw it away!!!!
If you don't wear it regularly, store it elsewhere. If you really don't want it, invite all your girlfriends to take what they want. Then after that, makeupalley.com has a section for trades of lightly used items.
I hoard makeup like a crazy woman. I wear almost none of it, but I'd never get rid of it because once in a while I want to do something exciting or ambitious with my makeup.

Thanks ladies! That's a good idea to get storage containers. I just don't want to store it away and forget about it! I seriously need to stop hoarding and really buy items that can only be justified. :) lol.

I know the feeling! I also agree though, don't throw them away! I keep any makeup I rarely ever use, in a large makeup bag because they may come in handy one day. In fact, I've found myself saving money this way to be honest. I usually do a natural look or smoky look (with either black, grey, brown or nude colours) but then that makeup bag saves me going to buy products just for a one-off look, then never using them again. Also, with trends changing all the time, you may find that you have the products to carry out the latest trend on yourself.

Not long ago I did the same. I used to try out a lot of drugstore makeup and had a ton that wasn't even touched for months. So I tossed everything I don't use on myself or others. Mostly getting rid of random drugstore products I wanted to try once and never touched again.

Sometimes I do but I end up giving it to friends and family and they're always appreciative so maybe just share your wealth of beauty products win win

I definitely get overwhelmed from time to time and I find myself purging old makeup. However, this makes me feel so guilty! This may be such a long post so please bear with me:

To combat my itch to purge, what I've done is I get very specific bags/storage for my needs. I have a medium size bag (your ideal size) which contains makeup that I would use every single day. It has all of my necessities, and it's not too big to carry in my purse, and it's a great back to pack on the go if I have to travel unexpectedly.

I have three others though. The first of them holds makeup that I'd use on my days off (or my very lazy days): BB Creams, tinted moisturizers, samples, different kinds of foundations, etc. for trying when I have the time. The second holds different coloured shadows than my usual neutral palette, different eyeliners and mascaras —maybe for days where I want a bolder look. My final bag holds all of my products for cleaning brushes, and also for cleaning my face; so makeup wipes, face wash, moisterizers, etc.

Don't be afraid to purge makeup you'll never use, but definitely don't just throw it all away, either! You may really end up regretting that. Maybe make a plan for yourself that maps out way to not only use the makeup you already know and love, but to incorporate some of the makeup you're really itching to toss?

Noooo!!!! Unless its a mascara or a rancid lipstick, keep it. You'll regret it if you do. U just need an organizer.

I know the feeling, recently I decided to go through everything...I know i won't stop buying completely(even though I don't need anything else, haha!) Organizing and making note of everything you have helps a lot. I went through and did "piles" 1) donation, I picked out stuff i know I will never use and made packages for friends and family I knew would appreciate it, friend's just getting into makeup and family who need a good starter kit for work, etc. Also, places like women's shelter's are great places to donate stuff. 2) SELL. Have a blog/makeup alley/join a FB swap and sell group. It's a great way to make a little money on things that are still great, but not for you. 3) Organize your every day basics, stuff you know you will use daily/weekly. 4)Then organize the rest, stuff you may use occasionally, stuff you love and don't want to get rid of but don't really wear every day. Compacting things helps me too, I find that if things are more compact and organized I will use them more, like putting all my single shadows in one palette, same with blushes/highlighters etc. Then I store palette's in a mail organizer, pigments in a small counter drawer and lipsticks/glosses in a holder and liners in a pencil cube, brushes in a cube or brush organizer. Being able to see everything laid out in order really helped me, I stopped buying stuff that was similar to what I already have.
