Well, the easy way is to go to MAC, tell them what your skin is like and what coverage you want. They'll hook you up. They have the widest variety of foundation tones. Or you can go to sephora and get help there.
The most important thing is to check the foundation in sunlight. Then an hour or so later in sunlight again (good foundation shouldn't oxidize into a different color, but it can).
MAC has always been my go to because I am extremely fair. Only they and Illumasqua make foundation light enough for me, so I'm pretty limited. You have mid range skin, so the world is your oyster!
Oh, and if you are limited to drugstore, find a place with a good return policy. I know Rite Aid will let you return open cosmetics if they don't look right. If you can find a place that lets you return, pick up a few likely matches, take them home and test in sun.
