Okay, so I bought a few brushes, which are made out of natural hair and I love them, but the problem I get about natural hair brushes is that the smell they have is disgusting, has anyone have this problem and what are some of the stuff you have done to eliminate the bad odor of the brushes?
probably most of us have had this problem before, I am very sensitive to smells and I don't tolerate the grossnes it makes me feel...
I usually just wash them until they either don't smell anymore, or they don't smell as bad to the point where I can stand it. I use Dr. Bronner's to wash my brushes and I think the peppermint one is the best for eliminating/covering up bad smelling brushes. Good luck!
I've been doing makeup for about 15 years and I don't recall a smell on any of my natural hairs... Hmmm but absolutely wash them before they touch anyone's face! I have accidentally rolled mine up though when one or more were obviously still damp- uhhh what a nasty smell that is! Had to pitch the brush roll cause that will NOT come out of leather!!
Also- I would look into that soaking in vanilla... I wouldn't use those brushes on clients after that for sensitivities/ allergies just to be safe
Wash them with a tablespoon of baking soda and your usual cleanser the first time. baking soda won't hurt the hair and it will help neutralize the smell. Washing your brushes in rose water will also help. It's pricey, but it smells good and it's good for the natural hair bristles AND your face.
I have washed them, with shampoo, olive oil and soaked them for like a few hours on white vinegar, yet they still have a strong eww kinda smell, but thank you lovely ladies for those tips, I'm going to try em all, cuz this brush is a hard one to use because of that smell.
yeah I never use brushes that haven't been deep cleansed on anyones face either, but this brush just seem to not work anything X_X
@Marimel N. sun dry??? doesn't that make the brushes a bit rough?
I Have been a professional make-up artist for over 20 years and MAC BRUSH cleaner has been by far the best I have ever used. I also agree using color treated shampoo and hair conditioner on them will help a lot. Wash in hot water rise in warm then cold. Good luck !
deep clean once a week with baby shampoo and spot clean in between uses with MAC brush cleaner, i'm really sensitive to smells too and that has always worked for me :)

Parisian Brush Cleaner smells like oranges It's amazing. It's the industry standard, gets the job done and disinfects.
