I personally like sephora's service better, on the whole they just seem friendlier, except for when I want to be left alone because I'm only browsing. It seems as though if you aren't permanently attached to a sales attendant then you have to turn them down left and right. :/ I haven't really gone to mac in a few years because many times when I went none of the attendants spoke to me the whole time (and it wasn't busy). I don't know if this was just my local store but that was my experience. Hasn't left me keen to go back.
I like Sephora's customer service a little better than MAC. All the MAC girls I've encountered in my local mall have given me the death glare and steered me away from their counter. Plus, I've had a bad experience with MAC, which is why I tend to order their products online. At Sephora, I feel like the service is friendlier and more relaxed. Definitely my favorite place to buy makeup.
