it might just be your hormones, stress or the food you eat. If you don't already do so, I would recommend working out regularly (exercise), drink lots of water, stay away from fast food, fatty foods, sugar, stress and drugs. Minimize alcohol, if none of that helps, see a Dermatologist :-)
See a good dermatologist. A prescription theymight give, which worked well for me, is aczone. If they determine it's hormonal then they will put you on birth control or a testosterone blocker. I was put on the latter because i wasn't interested in having more estrogen. They do take a few months to work though.
If its every other on a regular basis, it's most likely your hormones. Meaning topical medications really don't help much. If you over medicate your skin and it is hormone related you'll just dry it out. Talk to your doc about leveling your hormones better and do things to help stress in your life. Green tea is great because it helps your skin and your stress (: good luck!
Drink lots of water, eat more vegetables especially leafy greens, clean your cell phone daily with alcohol wipes, change your pillowcases often, maybe try the oil cleansing method if regular cleansers & moisturizers don't work for you
Stress can be a factor, but I also think your acne may be hormonal based. First I would examine your skin care routine and if any of your hair oils may be transferring onto your skin from your pillowcase. If you're wearing heavy foundations, using silicone-based makeup products on your skin or powder foundations containing bismuth oxychloride, eliminate these products for two weeks and see if your skin improves. Especially if you're using heavy moisturizers.
I really feel your pain. I've suffered from acne since the age of ten and I'm in my thirties. The only thing that has helped me is changing my diet and tweaking my skincare. I have made huge changes during the past year and a half and the one thing I've learned is that hormonal acne can not be solved by anything topical. It is 100% an internal problem and it is caused by simple carbs (white rice, white potatoes, white pasta, white bread), sugar (fruit juices, honey), dairy and soy. The simple carbohydrates spikes your blood sugar too high, too fast and in response, your body releases excess hormones to lower your blood sugar. These excess hormones increases your skin's oil production, causing breakouts. Dairy and soy puts your hormone levels out of balance and soy mimics estrogen. Eliminating these foods is not easy, but my skin has never been better.
What has also helped me is taking a multivitamin, zinc and wheatgrass. Wheatgrass juice (powder) has been surprisingly good for my skin. For pigmentation, I've found using lemon juice on my dark marks helps fade them really fast.
I've been blogging about my new experience since changing my diet. I've been doing other things as well that has worked wonders on my skin that I will blog about soon.
I've replaced my face was with sulfur soap and it has really helped me out. It is a bit drying though but as long as you use a good night moisturizer then you'll be fine.

Have you tried Claris? I use the gentle face cleanser, it's amazing and takes off all make up.
