Babyliss is a great one for thick & frizzy hair. Croc is great if you want super straight hair. I personally have the vibrastraight by brocato prevents you from pulling your hair and it great for thick hair.

I have used several different straighteners. My favorite is the gvp which has similar style to the chi actually it's sister brand. My hair is thick and wavy and it works wonders.

I prefer the mirror/ceramic straighteners. This is one thing I don't happen to think brand is important. As long as it has good heating plate, and it heats evenly and consistently, you're good. Most people don't need a high heat anyway.
