so the best way to do this is ask yourself...want kind of coverage are you looking for? if you want an easy 1 step thing with light to medium coverage do a tinted mosturizer as you're getting a mosturizer, foundation, and spf all in one. However, for a fuller coverage do a good foundation like makeup forever, smashbox, or lorac as it'll really evens things out :)
to find your shade take three different shades in a foundation and draw three lines with those colors between your cheekbone and jawbone. Whichever one blends right into your skin is the shade for you :)
If you are going to Sephora, they will also be able to tell you the exact shade you need for your complexion. It's a device they use that's called Color IQ. I'm not sure if all Sephora's carry this, but the one in NY Times Square has it. They were able to match me perfectly for a tinted moisturizer and foundation. Ask the make-up artist when you get there.
I have a problem, I have very fair skin. Its always been oily, when I wear foundation I can never seem to blend enough, it looks like I am wearing a mask or something, its always the wrong color, it is either too dark or too light, I really need help choosing the right product and finding the right color!!!
For me it depends on the formula and coverage. I have oily skin with hyper pigmentation due to old acne scars. Most tinted moisturizers, including some oil-free, make me look greasy and don't usually match my skin tone well. Foundation can have better coverage. To find my shade, I actually went to sephora and asked for help. After a while, I finally was able to look at something (most of the time) and know what works for me.

@Keesha- only the Sephora in Times Square has that right now. All Sephoras should have it in a few years <3

It depends on what kind of coverage you want or need. I personally do not need full coverage so I opt to use a tinted moisturizer.
