Manic Panic conditions your hair and is semi-permanent and vegan, but it may not show up too well on your dark hair. I used L'Oreal Bicolor Hilights on mine and it turned out really well with little to no damage, but, since it is permanent, it may damage, even if the damage is minimal.

You can use vegetable-based stains like Jerome Russell Punky Colours if you don't want to use any kind of "harsh" chemicals. Unfortunately, it might be hard for stains to show up on your dark, virgin hair. I used to chemically dye my hair all the time, but switched to using vegetable-based stains instead. It's more high maintenance but it's also more conditioning and better for your hair =)

Go to a professional. Don't ever use at home "dye".
