Personality (you can't be a snoozefest), good information (even if you're not a working MUA or hairstylist, IMO, you should have some idea of what you're on about), technique (especially when doing tutorials), good video quality, a willingness to say "I don't like (insert product here) and here's why..." (if you're reviewing a product), being honest and forthright with your viewers, don't encourage your viewers to be a-holes.
Fun to watch, good at applying makeup, nice video quality (and that doesn't mean HD) and here's the extremely rare to find big time: realizes that not everybody can hear and does some (or a lot of) closed captioning on videos - especially on product reviews. If I don't know what you're saying, I'm not going to spend my time listening to things that sound like mumbo jumbo to my Deaf ears. I've had to unsubscribe from a lot of people recently because my hearing isn't what it was (and it really wasn't even that~ great either) two months ago. There are hundreds and hundreds of HOH/Deaf people that want to watch videos on YouTube but can't because nobody wants (yes, I say "want" and not "can't'" because if I'm HOH/Deaf and can closed caption, the hearing people surely can too - and trust me, it'll be much easier for the hearing people to do it than it is for me and other HOH/Deaf people) to cater to them/help 'em out.
Passion, talent, honesty, self respect and confidence (but not overly confident). Willing to be whoever they want to. Someone who doesn't give into societies standards. Someone who is accepting of others, who doesn't judge on a whim.
Thank you, Kristin. I, and a bunch of other Deaf people, appreciate that, hahaha. It's nice when we're thought about for a change. c: Doing it word-for-word isn't entirely necessary. I know xiaorishu (who isn't a beauty vlogger but that's besides the point) does closed captioning (which is why I pretty much watch every single video of hers, haha) doesn't always do it word-for-word and that's okay. She'll paraphrase and it's good enough. It may take a little longer to finish editing your video, but when you think about the amount of good effort you put in and the fact that you're opening your videos to an entirely different word of people, it's a good feeling! And we like it too! Hahaha
Good advice, someone who actually puts on the makeup so you can see what theyre doing, and someone who doesnt ramble and ramble about stuff that has nothing to do with the tutorial
just be honest, entertaining, and know what you are talking about
oh, and dont just do it gor the freebies and popularity. trust me, it is very noticable and annoying
She has to be pretty, have a good camera and lighting. Doesnt ramble. Keeps the videos directly to the point, not too lengthy. Talented. Fun to watch. Down to earth and easy to relate to. Has a look that I want to try. Uses a variety of products and brands. A nice background. Nice hair.
New techniques & new tips I can learn for sure! & also down to earth, uses affordable as well as high-end products.. Honest :) I never even thought about captioning, I will definitely start to do that on my own, have yet to find a video editing program though?! xx
Unique ideas really speak out to me. Something that other people have not done before catches my eye more. And concise videos. I don't see why I need to tune into a video for a five minute look and spend ten minutes watching because the person spoke for half the time.
1)Must be engaging with their audience when it comes to social media
2)Must have a sense of humor....don't take it so seriously that it looks like you're not having fun
3)Solid and honest product reviews

Windows Movie Maker works just fine. That's what I used when I first started doing it.
Or my personal favourite, Corel Video Studio Pro X4 Ultimate.

i never thought about thought about captions for the deaf. I will deffinitely add that to my videos. I'd rather use captions than talking. :)
