I really want to try out coconut oil for my hair but there are so many different brands. Any recommendations? Also, I believe it comes "solid", in which case, what's the best way to apply it?
Doesn't matter the brand. And yes it does come solid in which case you just take a chunk and rub it in your palms which makes it liquid. Apply it to your ends and sleep on it. Wash it out like normal and your hair will be incredibly soft!
I use something called "coconut milk serum" You can pick it up at CVS & walmart for about 7$. It does wonders repairing your hair, & also serves as a great heat protectant ;]
If you wanna go au natural with the coconut oil, I'd suggest making a trip to Trader Joe's or any health food store that sells actual coconut oil. It's awesome as a hair mask, especially with egg yolk and a bit of honey. It really helps repair the hair and enriches the hair.
Just make sure the ingredients list ONLY states Coconut Oil :) summer's are ridiculously hot here in Ontario so I keep my jar in the fridge then microwave the entire thing for 1 min. & use the oil off the top. I've found for best results shampoo twice after if using it on your roots! Unless they're really dry of course, x
It's good as a de-frizzer too. Just get about a teaspoon of it for long hair, melt it in your hands and distribute evenly from the mid lengths down (do your roots last)
Thank you! I can't wait to try it now... especially as I LOVE the smell of coconut! I use olive oil at the moment which works wonders and of course, is readily available everywhere, but I'm up for trying something new! I've tried peach kernel oil and almond oil but they aren't rich enough so I feel like I'm slowly getting to the hair treatment that's right for me!
I got mine from an Asian market. What I do is put some in hand, put it in my hair and wrap it with plastic wrap. Then I wait half an hour and wash it out :)
You can find coconut oil at any local Indian store. I've been using it for years now and it's a great way to condition and strengthen your hair. Indian stores usually carry a blue bottle and you just put it in the microwave for NO MORE THEN 15 SECONDS (before applying it make sure it's not too hot) and then apply it all over your hair especially the roots. Leave it in overnight and if you're worried about getting your pillowcase oily just put on a shower cap or just lay a towel on your pillow. Usually it takes me two shampoo washes to get all of it out the next day but it does wonders on hair!
it doesnt matter what brand you use, as long as its "extra virgin" & you can apply it a number of ways, kuz it can help your skin, nails & hair! its also good for you :) you can eat, cook it, or apply it directly.!
Organic, extra virgin is more beneficial as opposed to refined because all the good stuff isn't removed. I use Spring Valley, which I found at my local Walmart for $10. Just put it in a hot bowl of water to melt it and apply to hair once a week as a deep conditioner or apply lightly as a serum. I also drink 1 tablespoon a day for overall health.
I use coconut oil every other day to keep my scalp moisturized and to minimize frizzy hair. You can find it in your local beauty supply store, a whole foods store, trader joes and walmart (cooking section). Oh and you can purchase it on vitacost.com as well.
