I'm trying to become a Freelance Makeup Artist and have no idea where to begin. I have a decent kit but I would love to go to some workshops and classes offered. Everything I find says I need to be certified. At the moment I am self taught (learning from books or videos) because I cant afford to go to school. Is there someone willing to let me shadow them or give me advice? Thank you so much. My email is thecolorbeauty@gmail.com
Have you thought about assisting? Maybe Google & reach out to a couple of MUAs in the area. When my friend started freelancing, she hired her makeup artist friend for a lesson/talk-through on what she needed in her kit.
NP! That's what I did. I reached out to a MUA that looked like a nice person, and turned out, she was. I'm in the area, and I need someone to talk makeup with, so I will email you.
Hi Erica!
I'm a freelancer as well. Once I felt ready, I started out by opening a modelmayhem profile. From there, you can network and it's opened up many opportunities for me.
I applied to the MAC Pro program as well, which allowed me to take Master Classes. You don't need a license to be approved plus you get great discounts off almost everything.
No, I had no license at the time I applied or was at any makeup school. I just sent my business card and a comp card which has about 4 pictures of work you've done. I actually wrote a post a long time ago about how I got mine if you'd like to read: http://www.luuux.com/node/2026619?b...
I actually practiced on friends going out. Also, prom/homecoming girls are great to work on. You don't need to be a pro-artist to get your MAC PPID card. Go the the mac pro site and look at the requirements. Also, freelance for them. That is a great way to 'practice' and get to know other artist and learn from them on the job. :)

Hey Vanessa
I thought you needed to be a Pro Artist or student to receive the MAC Pro Card? I will definitely look into it! Thanks for the heads up!
