You can try sugaring :) It's a lot like waxing, only it uses a mixture of boiled sugar, lemon juice, and water. The ancient Egyptians used sugaring. Some salons provide it, but you can easily make sugar wax at home and use with strips of old cloth--I've found that denim works best :) I use sugaring for my upper lip, between my brows, and chin/jaw/girl-beard area. It's completely natural, and unlike wax, sugar wax only sticks to the hair, not the skin, so it's less irritating. Takes a little practice, though. There's plenty about it on YouTube, more than I can say here.
Whatever method you decide to use, if you're worried about redness, 1) Do it at night so your skin has time to recover before you go out and about, and 2) apply a little aloe vera on the are afterwards to soothe any irritation. Aloe vera is still kind of "in season," I think, so you should be able to find some. It's ususally with the sunscreens in stores.
@Heather C. maybe for you its not an issue but for those who are darker in complexion it is an issue because it stands out on our skintones like a sore thumb. Even some fair skinned girls with darker hair feel the need to remove as well.
I bought the Olay duo hair removal cream. I used it twice and I loved it! Third time i used it. I think I left it on too long and it burned my skin. Skin was so dry and flaky. Also I think I placed too much cream on area that really didn't have hair. But I'm going to try again
Get the REM Spring facial hair remover from Amazon! It's around $12. The spring wraps around your hair and pulls it out by the root! I just got mine and I love it. It really works! I went ahead and tried it on my upper lip just to see how bad it hurt, which it did, but the instructions advise to wet a cloth with hot water and put on the area to help desensitize it and I think it did make a difference! For me, it didn't hurt more than waxing.
Other reviews said it hurt the first time, but it was fine after using it a couple of times. Cream-wise, I have very sensitive skin so I never left the product on long, but I would sometimes get chemical burns. Hope you find something that works for ya(: -Taylor
Nair gave me burns that took ages to heal and didnt ever get rid of the hair, but my skin is super sensitive. I wax with the sally hansen at home kit or the Parissa kit and pluck inbetween waxes(which i do about once every six weeks). To lessen pain I hold a cloth wet with hot water to the area Im waxing, take a pain releiver 45 mins before hand, and then apply azulene oil (a vial of it comes in the parissa kit, its blue) after waxing to remove residue and sooth skin.
Olay duo hair removal cream? I've tried it a few times and it worked perfect because mine is thin like yours, not thick. Last time I did it it burned though, but I think I don't use enough of the step 1 - balm, and I left it on too long. Only leave on for a few minutes since its not thick.
Tweeze & shave. I can't wax my face for some reason, it's the only thing my face is sensitive to. With all the exfoliation it really keeps the lines & wrinkles away...been doing it 20+ years (wow, I just said I've been doing something for 20 years...scary, HA!!) I'm Italian, have coarse hair everywhere and my lip has NEVER grown in any thicker, it has thinned out...do what works best for you, but try all your options first ;-)
Threading. I get mine threaded, when I get my eyebrows done I would ask to thread my upper lips too. Now it's done professionally. I'm sure you can also watch videos on youtube on how to learn to thread.
If I were you I would try lightening and then diminishing it first, because the older you get the darker and thicker it will grow back in!! Eventually you will get a shadow like a man and I'm not even kidding. The reason I say the hair grows thick (which is technically inaccurate) is because if you shave, you are cutting off the thinnest part of the hair, the thickest part grows to the top, you have to wait until it visible to shave again which just looks worse! If lightening/diminishing doesn't work for you, try plucking the longest and most prominent hairs (:

I do shave occasionally; the success of shaving depends on your method (I use a 'trimmer', meaning I don't go against the skin with a razor at all), your age/body chemistry (bodies are weird like that), and personal preference. I do think plucking/threading are the best bet for longer lasting results and minimal skin irritation (in comparison to waxing or using a depilatory cream).
You can always just bleach it. You just put this cream on your lip and leave it there for 8 minutes then wash it off. It itches a LOT but works really well. (: you can find the stuff at any drugstore.
WAX THAT ! Lol duh right ? I wax that my underarms (u will never shave again). Do not shave hair on yours face if will grow in thicker. If u don't want to wax then just pluck it out if u have the time and patients. Don't bleach or color it because the way the light can hit your face u will see it anyways. Don't use chemical means either it's bad for your skin. It's not a big deal. I'm an esthetician and about 80% of my clients get waxed.

I used to wax my upper lip but ever since I learned how to thread I just do that! It's super quick and simple to do! Definitely don't shave though!

Isn't it irritating? Doing all that stuff to a sensitive and hardly hairy area? I don't see the point in removing it...

If you use Nair be careful and pay attention to the timing. You don't want to burn your skin. My choice would be to wax.

Threading works best for me because it last longer than shaving and doesn't interfere with acne medication like waxing can.
