I'm a big fan of Miss Jessie's and Hair Rules for my naturally curly hair but I thought to try something different and picked up the shampoo, leave-in conditioner, curly custard gel and smoothing oil from the Kinky Curly line while at Target yesterday. This stuff has officially kicked MJ and HR to the curb! It has done a outstanding job at stretching my curls out and maintain curl definition without giving me the frizzy look. The shampoo cleaned my hair of build-up and the conditioner detangled my hair. And the curly custard gel....lets just say I'm running right back to Target to get another jar. What is your star product to get your curls just right?
Girl let me tell you what miracle product I use! lol I use a Garnier cream that works wonders for my frizzy hair. I even did a quick tutorial on how I get my curls. I hope it helps! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A74L...
Hey Shelley
Yes girl, Kinky Curly is a great product line. The curling custard is one of my favorite "gel" products to hold and define my curls, I also love love love the knot today conditioner. But the line that im obssed with now is Shea Moisture, which you can get at target and walgreens. Its amazing for definition but more importantly moisture! I have a produdct review on Shea Moisture and I talk about the products I currently use on my curls if you want to check them out on my channel :)
@Jessika B. I tried Shea Moisture a few months ago and it was too heavy for my hair. Just turned it into a knotted mess. And I bought the entire line and spent some serious time playing with it. I was so bummed. I ended up donating it all to a young girl in my neighborhood whose hair is loving it. She almost went back to relaxers...now she's flaunting those curls.lol. I'll check out your video and pass the link on to my lil neighbor...I think she'll get a kick out of it. @Ivelisse F. does the Garnier cream have a heavy scent to it? I remember using the shampoo a long time ago and my hubby banished me to another room because the lingering scent was kicking up his allergies.
Glad you kicked MJ to the curb. Their ingredients aren't great. I use the leave-in and custard, but not in the suggested way. My curl pattern is too tight and I have way to much hair for those little jars and bottles. I love the slip of the leave-in and use it in my personal moisturizer mix. I like to use the custard on my ends after twisting my hair because it keeps my ends looking nice. I've found that my conditioner/shea mix gives good definition, but I never wear my hair out.
Please be careful as some products will "coat" the hair strands and block moisture from entering the hair shaft causing breakage. If you using a lot of heavy styling products make your you are using a detoxifying shampoo to remove build up.
Shelley, I know the first time I tried Shea Moisture I used too much and it was too heavy for my hair and I recently revisited it useing alot less and now I love it! Its def one of thoes products that you have to use in moderation to your hair type and length :)
@Tennia W. I'm well aware of the styling products coating the hair. My hair doesn't take well to a lot of product so that's why I had to step away from cream stylers and resorted to a more natural approach with the natural aloe. I use a detoxifying shampoo after using store bought stylers followed by my homemade conditioner. Rotating between Kinky Curly products and my all-natural homemade items I'm seeing a HUGE difference in my hair and scalp. I should've said I WAS a big fan of Miss Jessie's after learning what my husband discovered and taught me about their stylers but I think my hair was seriously crying because my scalp feels so much better since I kicked it all out my house (MJ line).
I love ouidad botanical boost 😊it tames frizz, moisturizers, refreshes my wurls, and gives me beautiful hair days 😍I looooove it! I also love a good deep conditioner when I need it. My faves are garnier, Aussie 3 min miracle, and avocado mixed with olive oil & honey a good deep conditioner is very important for my medium/long 2c-3a hair. I also get amazing curls when I just spray water all over and scrunch with a t-shirt!
@Deanna R. It can be crunchy if you apply too much. Its like playing with a chemistry set when it comes to getting the right mix of product in the hair.lol. The Custard is really good but on my hair for example I'm good with a quarter size of product and anything beyond that crunch central. I apply the leave in while still in the shower and then I apply the custard to seal the conditioner in. If I have even a small amount of crunch I cancel it out with a touch of coconut oil after it has completely dried. I can get three days wear out of using the Kinky Curly line...which for me is pretty good considering I go to the gym 6 days a week.
I have to say Shea Moisture is an amazing product. Jane Carter is a really good line also. I love her leave in conditioner it's light and serves as a thermo protection.
I love the Aussie Line, especially Aussie Moist and Miraculously Smooth for cowashing and the 3 minute miracle w/ oils and honey added for great deep conditoner.
Shea Moisture products are my holy grail. I recently caught a set of Hair Rules products on sale on Hautelook.com. So I will be using them on my next wash n go.
Yeah I'm on the Shea moisture bandwagon like nobodies business... I've also wanted to try Shea radiance after I get through some of my SM stockpile... I tried Qhemet biologics creams but my hair does not seem to live them like everyone else's 😭😭
