Bobbi Brown brushes, hands down! I've worked with MAC,Smashbox,Prescriptives and Chanel brushes. If you wash the real hair brushes once a month and the synthetic ones after each use,I swear that should last you a good 10 years or more.Your eye lining brushes should be replaced as soon as they start getting "fat" or fanned out looking. When it comes to good brushes, you pay for what you get.
Since i only started using makeup until very recently i only have mac since that's were i bough my makeup but ive been noting down all this brands and Sigma, Rae Morris seem to be the most popular. But what do you guys think of Coast Scents it seems like a good deal around $30 for a set of 22 brushes?? I really appreciate your take! :)
@ Alondra
I would say Sigma/Coastal Scents and Rae Morris are polar opposites. The cost per brush for RM is similar to Mac, but the quality is better. Sigma and CS are more comparable. I have a lot of Sigma brushes, but no CS. Their quality is somewhat the same but Sigma is a bit better. Both are affordable brushes, great for beginners, but they have shedding issues. Sigma's synthetic line is great.
MAC has a few brushes that aren't great, but then they have a some that are amazing! Real Techniques are inexpensive and great quality. Sigma brushes are okay, they just seem very cheap to me. But lots of people really like them! Louise Young, NARS, Dior has some great face brushes, and Bobbi Brown. All amazing brands. :)
I have been using the Vortex Collection brushes by Sedona Lace, they're really innovative, well-made and sturdy brushes! I'd recommend them to anyone. http://www.sedonalace.com/Cosmetic-...
I agree with Jordan - Royal & Langnickel have been in the brush business for a very long time. Not only do they manufacture professional makeup brushes, but they also manufacture art brushes (which are what makeup brushes are based off of anyhow). They also offer a professional discount of 40% off (no, you do not need to pay an annual fee every year to get it either).
Also, MAC brushes are not always the best. All of my MAC brushes are from over 6 years ago so I got them when they were all still handmade. However, I know quite a few makeup artists that have bought them recently and say they are awful quality. Excessive shedding, handles coming off, etc. So I bought one recently out of curiosity and have to agree. Extremely way over priced and hardly anywhere near the quality they used to be.
Bottom line - there are so many options/companies to choose from. I have brushes from so many different companies it's crazy. Start with a basic set and add on from there based on your needs as an artist, your clientele and which brushes you reach for the most.
I stand by my earlier comment. I use ten image, smashbox certain mac brushes and bdellium tools. Professionally your tools will make the difference. Using them along side the right materials is always a good plan.
I think the best natural hair brushes I've used are those from Cinema Secrets, Da Vinci (a German line),Claudio Riaz (at Barney's), Shu Uemura, Hakuhodo, Trish McEvoy, Sue Devitt, Linda Cantello (no longer around) and, a new company called the London Brush Company. The Rae Morris brushes look great although some brushes seem inspired by Shu Uemura's more extensive Japanese line. There are also less well-known Japanese lines such as Takara and Chikuhodo that do exquisite brushes. If I were in a situation where my brushes could develop legs, I'd use Bdellium, Adesign or Royal Langnickel's Revolution line.
sigma all the way. i do own a few brushes from sephora, and i really like them because of the metal wand that each brush comes with.( some of them have it, not all of the brushes in the store, the colorful ones.) I love them because they do not shed. Also, when you wash them you do not need to worry about going above that metal tube that meets the wooden brush( so water doesnt get in your brush and create sheds.) Its just more chill to wash your brushes and not worry. i do love sigma, i have never bough any mac brushes. they seem to similar since i have so many sigma brushes.
I agree with Vanessa Cozette are the best! I also love Royal & Langnickel Revolution line, Bdellium Tools Green Bambu line and OCC as well as Christopher Drummond here is a review I did on Royal & Langnickel http://makeupmattersbylnc.blogspot....
