Hi, lately I've been breaking out from stress and makeup I've been wearing recently. It's driving me nuts because I can't get rid of the oil and acne on my face. I just don't have flawless skin. It's uneven, I have acne, it's oily, and I have acne scars. For anyone who has flawless skin, how do you have it?? I'm so jealous. What's your skin routine?
Thanks to anyone who helps me :)
I wouldn't say that I have flawless skin, but it has drastically improved over the last few months. I switched my skincare products over to Clinique Acne Solutions line (I use the cleansing bar at night and the foaming cleanser in the morning followed by the clarifying lotion and moisturizer. I use the spot healing as needed), cut out a lot of sugar, drink tons of water and green tea. I apply Vitamin E to my face a few times a week since I can be prone to dryness due to eczema, and it also helps with acne scars. Twice a week, I use St.Ives apricot scrub and Queen Helene's Mud Pack Masque. I also started taking fish oil and added GNC Be-Beautiful vitapaks. Since making these changes, I have noticed my skin has improved a good deal and I do not break out as often. And my skin gets a lot less oily. Oh, and keep you cell phone clean. I like to keep alcohol pads on hand to clean mine off.
Hope this helps =)
I don't have flawless skin either but I rarely break out, and I think it's because of what I use on my face. My skincare routine only consists of two products. I wash my face wit a blackhead scrub from Target, moisturize with CeraVe. That's it. I think some people have break outs because they use too many products, and it can actually cause more harm than good.
What I also do, and I know people are going to want to lecture me about this, is I only wash my face every other day when I shower. It's like washing your hair- the more you wash it the more it dries out and the more natural oil will form to make up for it. You can train your hair to go longer without washing, and you might be able to do that with your face too. If you can, try not to wear heavy face makeup for a few days and maybe try washing with just oatmeal (you cn find tutorials on this on youtube). The oatmeal is very calming and natural so it'll probably be nice and gentle on your irritated skin- I use it where I have eczema, and, although it's not the same thing as your problem, it calmed my irritated skin and made it soft and moisturized!
So my whole message is: simplify what you use. If you use too many products, they can actually counteract each other and make your skin worse! Good luck, I hope I helped at least a little:)
I know exactly how you feel! The best thing to do is go to your dermatologist. They'll know exactly what to prescribe, recommend, and give you the do's and don'ts on maintaining healthy, clear skin. What mine told me was that Aveeno's Clear Complextion Clear Cleanser...I use it twice a day, in the morning and at night. It's a gentle exfoliator that leaves your skin feeling really smooth and clean. My doctor also prescribed me with Retin-A (Tretinoin) cream. For the past few months I was using .025%, but apparently my skin got used to that. When I went back to her, she upped it to .04% to take for a few weeks (or however the sample sizes lasted me), and then gradually adjust to .7%, which I haven't reached yet. For a moisturizer she suggested CeraVe, an AM lotion and a PM lotion, the AM lotion containing SPF. She also gave me 150 Mg Doxycycline Hyclate pills to help, and they really are making a difference in my skin. Even my acne scars are fading. I went to my dermatologist a few weeks ago, and I'm already seeing improvements! It hasn't even been a month and my skin already looks clearer than it has in a long while. Water helps a lot, and it's something that I really need to start drinking more! I hope this helps (:
Several years ago I had a bout with terrible acne which was unusual for me. I went to a dermatologist who gave me a topical lotion and a prescription for pills called Aquasol A. I found out from my pharmacist that it was basically just a high dose of vitamin A, which he explained helps keep your pores open. I stopped buying the expensive prescription and started taking four vitamin A's a day. My acne cleared up in no time! I switched to taking Beta Carotene instead because it has a few more benefits than the A alone and it works beautifully, I still take them daily. I also switched dermatologists and he recommended Neutragena products. They don't over cleanse which is something you need to watch out for. As mentioned above, if you remove too much oil your sebaceous glands will work overtime to replace it. I've been using their natural line for daily cleansing and switch to the acne treatment if I do get some break out. My skin looks and feels pretty good all the time. Don't forget the sunscreen!
I keep a routine- I wash with a RX cleanser, use my Clairisonic only at night, scrub twice a week and use a mask twice a week. I always check with my dermatologist before I change products from the drugstore or change up my routine. The dermo can be your best friend- consulting one and getting their help has changed my skin drastically.
My skin isn't perfect by any means, but my skin has improved a ton since high school. The only problem I deal with now, for the most part, is uneven/blotchy red skin. Once a week I use a clay mask (which is great for oily skin) and exfoliate with either my GoClear or Mary Kay cleanser and Clarisonic Mia. Every day I get ready, I use my Cetaphil moisturizer. To take my makeup off at night, I wash with my Neutrogena Fresh Foaming cleanser and apply my Proactiv repairing cream and Shiseido Revitalizing eye cream. Depending on the weather and my skin, I change it up :)
My skin truly changes with the seasons and everyone struggles with skin at some point. I have dry and sensitive skin- not the funnest thing to work with. There are almost NO foundations I can wear without getting a rash or a break out. I try to stay as natural possible. Not to self promote in this post- but my Fruit Facials leave my skin really refreshed and youthful looking. When I have a break out or a rash, I use one of those to help my skin get back to new. also, make sure to find out which makeup is causing a problem for you. This is a tedious process, but if you aren't sure, then go one product at a time for a week and see what happens. You have to eliminate the culprit so this won't just keep going on forever. Hope this helps!
I exfoliate, I wax (it reduces ingrown hairs and I hate those) and I moisturize! I also use the line at European Wax Center, their products are pretty amazing especially the one to exfoliate, way better than some of the more expensive stuff. But that is pretty much my regimen. Pretty simple, very little upkeep and no frills!
I honestly believed that nothing would help my skin, it's not completely terrible, but my skin tone was uneven, I had some dark spots from past breakouts, and some of my pores were more visible then I liked them to be. I use St. Ives Apricot scrub pretty much every day because it unclogs pores and evens skin texture by taking off dead skin which is important to help keep in moisture. I read a lot online, I have tried a lot from natural cleansers like lemon and honey, and other such things but they always dried out my face. Now I use Clinique. I almost feel as if I am a "spokes person" for Clinique because of how much I recommend it. I have only been using it for about 4 week and I see so much difference in my skin. I bought the trial pack, which was only $10 for a large toner, a small lotion and cleanser. I use it morning and night, sometimes if I am lazy I skip at night i just quickly run a cotton ball of toner over my face to help remove some dirt. But I hardly break out anymore. My scars are going away, which I use there "even better dark spot corrector" for. (Which I will talk about later), my skin tone is even, my face is smoother and I always feel clean and fresh before I put on my make up. I truly belive that all 3 of these products work together, I guess that's why they call it the 3-step to better skin. Before I would mix and match brands, but that can be hard, and you can waste a lot of money trying to find which works with which. These three are made to work together. All I did was go online, take a test that just asks a few questions about your skin and it told me to use the #3 3-step. About a month before I purchased the cleanser, I bought there "even better dark spot corrector" I washed my face only using St. Ives Apricot Scrub, and then applied the product/lotion. It made my skin feel really really soft. Like silk or something. But I was unsure if I was seeing a difference or if I was just trying to stay positive. I went back online and it said that I need to use the 3 step. Which I didnt think was neccessary but once I bought it and used it I can really see the changes now. Scars that would show through foundation can now be covered with just foundation. I take pictures in the sun, and I can tell the dark spots are going away. It's pretty awesome. Just this morning I was looking at myself without make up and I finally feel like my skin has an even tone and texture. I also started using there foundation, which is so light and airy but gives great coverage. I feel like there is nothing on my skin but it feels so smooth. I really recommend giving these a try. If you dont wanna try the make up just yet or the spot corrector, you should try to find the trial size of the 3-step.
I used to have acne when I was younger it was super frustrating.
I tried antibiotics and a lot of prescription creams from a dermatologist, every birth control pill (which I actually had to stop taking because it increases your risk of stroke and it runs in my family) and finally went on Accutane. It was brutal being on it but it was only a few months and it changed my skin drastically. A couple years after I would get Photodynamic Therapy 2-4 times a year to keep my skin clear but the best part of the PDT was that it eliminated my scars very fast (by the first or second session). I think I grew out of having really troubled skin now but I still break out every now and then.
That doesn't mean I don't struggle with my skin, I still do! But like people have already mentioned the best thing is to keep your skincare simple. Things like always wearing sunscreen everyday, changing your pillow case as often as possible, tying your hair back away from your face when you sleep, cleaning your phone regularly, never using the same towel on your face twice and giving your skin a break from makeup as often as possible sound like small things but can make a big difference. I personally have found that some shampoos make me breakout so just be aware like if you are breaking around along your hairline you might want to switch your haircare to see if it makes a difference.
My skincare is:
-a gentle face wash in the morning like Cetaphil, CeraVe, Spectro Jel, etc
-moisturizer with SPF
-at night i wash my face once to get all my makeup off then i use my Clarisonic with the same face wash
-then i will use an AHA or BHA or both. to put it simply AHA's exfoliate the surface of your skin (helping scars fade for example, and helping with any dry patches) and BHA's clean inside your pore helping with breakouts, blackheads, whiteheads. So for me i will sometimes only use the BHA on my t-zone and an AHA on the rest of my face
-if i need i use a low benzoyl peroxide cream on any trouble areas, currently i'm using Spectro Jel's sensitive one that is 2.5%, i let it dry completely (i would advise using a low BP because it will be gentle on your skin, don't worry it will still work!)
-then i apply my night moisturizer which is Embryolisse lait-creme
other: i like to use a clay mask 1x a week and an at home peel (Juice Beauty's Green Apple Sensitive) 1x a week too but never on the same day :)
First and foremost for me I rely on diet followed by skincare products to keep my skin looking clear. I no longer consume dairy, I limit the amount of meat I eat, green tea is my Gatorade and I police my sugar intake big time. When I have too much of the forbidden stuff it comes out in my skin with painful breakouts and horrible skintone.

I keep it simple and as natural as possible:
I use an acne wash every day, exfoliating once a week (exfoliating too much isn't a good thing).
Most days of the week I apply olive oil to my face. I use it as moisturizer.
Once in a while, I wash my face with oatmeal or use an egg mask.

I try to take an all natural approach to skin care. I've never had acne problems but my skin is very sensitive and prone to break outs and some cleansers either dry my skin out or irritate it. I like to cleanse my face using the oil cleansing method using one part castor oil and two parts olive oil. I massage the mixture into my face, steam my face a little with a warm wash cloth and then wipe my face clean. Afterwards, I moisturize with pure Shea butter
