I'm kinda new here so I don't know if this has been asked before... sorry if it has. For years I've heard that it's not good to cut your hair with household scissors because it damages your hair by causing split ends, but then years ago I read that it really doesn't matter what scissors you use. So does using household scissors really damage your hair by causing split ends? And if so, what scissors are best used for trimming split ends?

I don't think it would matter as long as they are sharp you know so they are pulling or leaving it jagged. Just a pair of small sharp scissors would be fine!

I heard it's not good for your hair. Type in hairdressing scissors in eBay, I bought a small pair for about £5 :)

well, I usually use household scissors for my bangs and they haven't suffered from it.. I guess it also depends your hair textrue, if you have strong and healthy hair, they won't damage so easily and so on :)

You want very fine blades on those scissors and most household scissors are very very dull. Walmart actually sells scissors where the brushes and hand held mirrors are, go get a pair the difference is there!

Thanks for the information Lisa, Laura and Tara! Ok, I'm definately going to look for a sharp pair of scissors because I actually did notice that my household scissors were causing me to get split ends... guess I must have damaged hair. Thanks again for the information :)
