What should you do with already pigmented lips?

My lips are already rather pigmented naturally (I would say maybe a medium rose tone?), but I want to use a lighter coral shade for prom. I've been looking through the threads on coral lip products, and I think I might end up getting the Revlon lip gloss in Coral Reef (any other suggestions would be amazing as well!). How would I go about using a lighter color on my lips? Should I use my concealer as a base? Or is there a better way to do this?

Thanks in advance! :)

I definitely would use a concealer and or your foundation before applying a lighter colored lipstick.

If you line your lips with a similar shade, it will help block out your natural lip color as well, but using foundation/concealer as a base is your best bet. I have pretty pigmented lips so I know how you feel!! Haha good luck and have fun at prom :)

If you do use concealer to blank out your lips, just make sure your lips are well-moisturized first.

Another option is to put on a nude lipstick first (I like e.l.f. Mineral lipstick in Natural Nymph or Revlon Colorburst l/s in Soft Nude for this, as they're very good at blanking out the lips). Or you (or someone) can call MAC Pro and order a product called Lip Erase. It comes in two colours -- Pale (for lighter skintones) and Dim (for darker ones).

I would just go ahead and cover your lips with your foundation/concealer before applying the lip product. No need for something like the Lip Erase when you've got that. :)

Using concealer and/or foundation might mix with the color you apply, especially if it's a light shade. I know because it's happened to me. I suggest a good lip primer. It keeps the color fresh all night without having to constantly apply it. MAC has a fabulous one. They also have a great lip moisturizer as well that's great to use before applying color to your lips.

I use my Avene lip balm first while I'm doing the rest of my makeup, then when applying my foundation I lightly, I stress the word lightly because this might dry your lips out, I lightly use the foundation brush to dab some foundation on my lips, it doesn't need to be much, just a little bit like whatever is left on the brush would be enoughand then I pat my lips with my ring finger to make sure that it blends with the moisturiser. I use this method because I got some discoloration because of the sun on my lips, so it's not even, it's like random spots here and there. The Avene lip balm prevents that too.

I have very pigmented lips as well. I moisturize my lips first then apply a concealer/foundation and then apply the lipstick.
