Hello,
I'm new here., my name is Christine, I've had dry brittle , damaged hair.. which seems like forever. right now I'm using the L'oreal ever sleek sulphate free shamoo & cond. It seems to work. But, I've been wanting to try to use olive oil or coconut oil or the new maraccan oil that is out there. I , actually tried the olive oil , it worked, but had a hard time getting it outta my hair. any suggestions?...Thanx ,Christine
Hey Christine! I use the same shampoo and conditioner and I personally find them to be a bit drying. I'd suggest looking into Organix products (they are also sulfate-free). I've used the coconut milk line before and it smells amazing! The conditioner is very moisturizing. You should also try the Aussie 3 minute deep conditioner. I use it once a week and it makes my hair really smooth and soft. As for the olive oil hair mask, I think the shampoo is the main reason that you can't wash the oil out of your hair. Even though I'm on my second bottle, I don't think I'll purchase this shampoo again because sometimes I don't feel like it really cleans my hair. If you look into some of the other sulfate-free shampoos, your problem will be solved :)
If you aren't already, I might suggest washing your hair less! I wash my hair 2-3 times a week. As for oils I like to use a little bit after I get out of the shower. On my damp hair I put a little in my palm and distribute it well. Just a little bit so it doesn't build up or get greasy. I have not tried just olive oil so I can't speak on that part. The oil I like is the One 'N Only brand. I also recently picked up the Got2b Oil-Liscious and love it almost more than the One n only. Of course there are many other higher/lower end options to all kinds of oils! The Aussie 3 minute miracle works great but I feel like that stuff is a VERY temporary fix, it leaves my hair nice till I wash it again. But I will say this, I am a super lightened blonde, with very fine hair, so I have to be very careful with my hair. Your hair type might play into what will work for your hair! Like, the sulfate free products made my hair feel HORRIBLE. It felt gross and not clean, I do not use sulfate free shampoo/conditioner. Actually the Organix products made my scalp very dry. It's just about finding what works for you and your hair type:D If you think the products are working for you then stick with it, and as mentioned above the sulfate free may be why you can't get the oils out of your hair:)
I have a video upload on here for dry/damaged hair :)
i suggest organix morrocan deep conditioner! it works wonders :D as well as the aussie 3 minute miracle!
Argan oil i got rid of my red hair had to have it bleached twice and dyed twice with highlights completely fried it! I have been using argan oil in my hair after i get out the shower and it had done amazing things for me!!!
I actually had a beautician once tell me that you could twist your hair several times and actually cut the invdividual strands that were sticking out to help with split ends.
So, I'm curious too ... is that true, can you actually just cut individual strands?
I sometimes take one egg and one tablespoon of extra virgin olive oil and I mix those together to create a deep-condtioning treatment. That's usually enough for my hair because it comes to my shoulders and my hair is dry and very curly. I keep it in for about thirty mintues and then I rinse it with cold water (hot water will cook the egg in your hair!!!). It may work for you hair, it may not, but it really helps mine. I noticed that it stops any breakage I may have, but if you try it, only do it like once or twice a month, becuase your hair can break off from using protein excessively.
Use Nexxus Split End (made by the same people as Redkin) shampoo and conditioner (I only wash my hair every 3 days as well). You see a difference immediately. I have been using it for a month and I can't believe the difference. I also let my hair air dry til it is slightly damp, then low heat dry the rest. My hair was a wreck....My stylist told me not to use 3 minute miracle if your hair is really damaged because it will weigh your hair down more, so more breakage.
well I used to have damaged hair too, but I started to use a series of products that helped me a lot to restore my hair , it's Pro Naturals Moroccan Argan Oil Hair Treatment Kit which works really good and leaves the hair smooth, shiny and healthy. :D If you are interested you can check it out at safrons.com .
Hope this helps and good luck.
I'm glad you're already using a sulfate free poo and conditioner. That was the first thing I was going to suggest lol. I would also suggest you find a nice, good deep conditioner and mix it with some honey and an oil (castor, olive oil, almond, etc) and then use it to deep condition weekly. Be sure to coat your hair with the mixture focusing on the ends and then working your way up. I think it'll be a good idea to limit your heat usage as well. If you're up for it, instead of blow drying try air drying! Especially if you plan on flat ironing. Cutting down on your heat usage will help you retain more moisture, growth, and help prevent splits and dryness. If you're not up for air drying I'd suggest blow drying on cool.

Felica's post made me remember this:
