Start with drugstore brands and once you receive steady pay, upgrade to more professional brands.
I always get very good deals at Make-up conventions, they sell for reasonable prices nd its all name brand...luv my brushes nd make-up boxes!!!

Start out with the basics - get the lightest and darkest shade of foundation and custom mix colors. With blush, I started out with the just two shades (pink and peach). For lipsticks, get a white and black mixer so you can create different variants of the same colors (I'd go with red and coral). Start building your eyeshadow collection with neutrals since most clients will need that (unless you plan to do high fashion or avant garde). Building a kit isn't cheap but if you plan it and continue to build with the increasing number of clients you get, you'll end up with an amazing kit. Always keep quality in mind - don't sacrifice that over price because these products will end up in your client's face and if they have an allergic reaction it won't be pretty (literally). Don't use anything on them that you wouldn't use on yourself.

Sleek eyeshadow palettes are inexpensive (around $10.50 US) and the colours are beautiful! I personally like them better than some of the MAC colours I have. If you have a certificate from a beauty school you can take advantage of Pro Programs through MAC, Cover FX, Smashbox and build your kit with their products without breaking the bank.
