So the hairstyle I want to try is similar to Kristen Stewarts at the VMA's where it's more volumized at the roots and then thrown to one side, while still looking natural.
I would suggest looking for some tutorials on youtube along the lines of beachy waves and then find the kind of style you are looking for from there, hope this helps!
For the wild waves aspect, I recommend using Herbal Essence Tousle Me Softly line. I use it all the time. My hair has whimpy waves but when I use those products, my waves become defined and semi-curly without any heat and barely any effort.
To get volume at the roots, (if youre side parting) style your hair the opposite way you want it (so if in the end you want a part on the left, stlye it as tho you were parting on the right) when you flip your hair, there should be a ton of volume, and a deeper part will help more hair naturally fall to one side.
If you put your hair in to a few plaits when it's wet this can give that effect. You can clamp down with your straighteners as well for a more defined look. You can also buy Salt Spray.
1) Start from freshly washed hair. Apply heat protectant and blow dry roots. Semi dry the rest of your hair and tie it up into a messy bun. Sleep overnight with the bun.
2) The next day, your hair should form big, voluminous waves. Spray water/heat protectant to slightly dampen your hair. Using your fingers, blow dry your hair while scrunching.
3) Make sure you haven't created a parting in your hair up till this point. Back comb/tease your roots to create volume and flip your hair to whichever side you prefer.
4) Using hair wax, tease and create texture into your hair.
I use this steps to create a similar disheveled look. I have natural straight hair, though. Hope this works for you!
