For me sanitation is important. I would like to have all my makeup and brushes to be in hospital grade clean. I want to avoid giving some an infection of any kind. So can you beauties suggest products/techniques to maintain you kit sparkly clean and germ-free.

Thanks !!

For your brushes (synthetic) put rubbing alchohol in a little spray bottle and use that to clean them!

Don't waste your money on Beauty So Clean.. it's just an ethanol based spray. Buy yourself some metho, put it in a spray bottle and dilute it with water. much cheaper alternative!

I honestly just have alcohol in a spray bottle and I spray everything when I use it.

I agree with Bec. Beauty So Clean is a waste of money because the primary ingredient is ethanol alcohol which is what vodka happens to be.

Bec, when using the Metho, how much do you dilute it with water?

Thanks beauties for all your help

I was wondering... I'm not a pro MUA, just dabble on myself and friends.. but if I spray alcohol on an eyeshadow and/or lipstick (I've seen MAC do this when I got my make up done there), that will disinfect it obviously.. but is it going to ruin my eyeshadow or lipstick? Or make it have a funny top layer ?? thanks.

No it won't ruin it.

i use alcohol diluted with water 1part alcohol 2part water is what i do and put it in a spray bottle.. for my brush i deep clean them using shampoo then dip them in alcohol like this --> http://youtu.be/yHWzoZGrceQ for the hospital grade cleanliness any brand of alcohol is fine..
ps. iam not a pro MUA but i value cleanliness. ;)

I use alcohol works to kill bacteria growing and it shouldn't ruin your brushes, eyeshadows or lipsticks, I own both synthetic and natural brushes and never had a problem with any brush at all, same with makeup.
though i know about sanitary stuff I was wondering how about powder puffs?
is it sanitary to use them in different people and then spritz alcohol or should you each time use a new one?
for myself I just continue to use my old one, because I wash it every week, but how about in other people?
I don't use a brush to apply powder because sometimes that doesn't set the makeup if you swirl the brush on the face.
just a random question and oh yeah I clean my brushes every week also but with a mix of extra virgin olive oil and dish soap hope that helps :)

^Powder puffs should be disposables if you're using them on multiple clients... although you may go about sanitizing them in between clients properly, it's still a courtesy to be able to use a fresh one on them to prevent you from any liabilities that may occur. Better safe than sorry!  =)

About the powder puff thing - My teacher taught us to never 'swirl' setting powder on, but to pack it onto a big powder brush all over the face and then just knock the excess off with the same brush. Same effect as using a powder puff :D

thanx @Soma :D

@Bec yeah I know that about brushes, I just tend to preffer puffs, I think in my mind that they do a better job in setting makeup than brushes do lol :)

THank you
