Help with Red Hair Dye.

I'm currently red and I've got my hair to keep its red for about three weeks (which i see as a HUGE accomplishment) first use cold water in the shower hot water makes the color bleed, before you color your hair make sure its healthy, and last once a week mix a demi color red in with your conditioner as a color refresher. Also I've used the feria red for dark hair from sallys(which I didnt have dark hair and naturally I dont). Its worked the best. I hope this helps!

Heyy I dyed my hair bright red about 2 years ago and used garnier and it faded but all hair dye does that except it stained my hair, I dyed it three times after that and in the sun you can still see the red!

The only red I've ever used that didn't really fade was from Pravana (the same red Rhianna used). But thats like RED and you would need a professional to buy it for you (or get it off of ebay). And you're probably have to even your hair color up a bit, if thats the direction you're trying to go in. But, the newest launch of hair colors from Feria has a red that my friend uses, and that seems to have really good staying power.

Red is so hard! I am currently rockin the red look instead of my dirty blonde and I've found that the best way to get a really great red color is to go to Sally's and mix colors myself. I usually get ion brand cream color and mix dark blonde red and light blonde red together. The red color is fantastic and the dye is uber cheap, but it is messy and a pain in the ass so I've been using Garnier Nutrisse in True Red. The pros of the box dye are that it's convenient and you can grab it pretty much anywhere and that it's quick, but the downside is that I've found that I barely have enough to cover all of my hair (my hair falls midway through my chest) and I often miss spots which is embarrassing and the red does not last as long (though I appreciate that the color that my hair fades to with the box is much more natural). I agree with Joi! I've been every shade of red. Seek a pro colorist- at least your first time, to get your hair color even. After that, if you want to do DIY, go to Sally's and get color there. It's only a few bucks more, but better quality than a box color and you can custom mix your color so you get to choose the strength of your developer, etc. Good luck!

@ Kayli H. its not bleach but it is peroxide which is a chemical used to lighten hair like bleaching does the difference is that u dont recieve a high lift using peroxide and if used improperly can turn ur hair a funky shade and also it can damage previously colored hair if not careful . I say the fact that she had red and blonds and from the looks some brown she seek a colorist

I've seen a lot of youtubers go red lately and they all used the Loreal Hicolor. It gives you BEAUTIFUL color and you don't need to bleach! (Well, it kind of has bleach in it, but you know what I mean!) You mix it with developer and put it on and BAM! Haha

I don't know how it will work on your lighter hair though- all three of the people I've seen had pretty dark hair, but it's worth a shot!

John Frieda has a product for red heads that helps protect the hair color from color to color and in between shampoos and always do a deep condiotioner after u color ur hair to lock in the color, and prevent ur hair from being so damaged but overall reds are time consuming to manage and if u are unsure of what the outcome may be I would let a professional that is excellent in color correcting apply the color from looking at ur photo u have a few colors going on that may not interact well with what u apply from a box urself but if u let a pro know what all u have done they will be able to do exactly what u need to give u the color that u want

CHI hair dye works really well and you can do it in a single process too. I had bright cherry red highlights in my hair at one point and I remember being really impressed with it because the stylist didnt have to lift my hair first at all and my natural hair color is jet black. As for care, dont use hot water to wash,your hair because that will only fade your color faster. Also be sure to use products that are meant for color treated hair. Most regular shampoos will strip the color right out. Hope that helps : )

I have had much experience having multiple colors in my hair. Mostly red.

When going red, it is always best to get hair as even as a shade as possible, either lightening or simply color stripping. This can be tricky and damage hair, but if done right it can work.

If you have multiple colors, you can try doing a color stripper, but that might leave the roots kinda the same and the rest a orangey tone. Or you can bleach your hair to get most of it an even color. Then apply the red all over. Use a permanent color, and use the semi- permanent every few weeks as touch-ups. Re-dying already colored hair may leave the hair brittle and make it hard for it to keep the color, so avoid that by only touching up roots with permanent color.

But it is tricky, and I would recommend going to a salon, or doing a lot of research before doing it yourself.

Unfortunately Red fades on everyone I have ever known who went red. It is a a color that requires a lot of maintenance and touch ups. You may consider the box dye if those have worked for you in the past and then touching it up with a semi/demi permanent color every 2 weeks or so. That is probably the only real way you will continue to have the vibrant red you are looking for.

I need help. My hair fades from blonde to orange to brown. What is the product you find best for dyeing your hair red without using Maniac Panic? I was thinking about using Garnier Nutriesse Ultra Color but since my hair fades, would that be bad to use? Or would it get it all one shade? HELP.
