Be aware that tattoos on your hand have to be touched up every few months, which is kind of a crappy deal if you don't like pain.

A small tattoo won't be able to have as much fine detail and will age faster than a medium or large piece. If pain is the main reason you want to go small, take an aspirin before your tattoo and choose a fleshy location (shoulder, calf, thigh, back, arms) being sure to avoid areas directly over bone (ankle, hands, wrists, feet, shins, ribs, elbows). They really don't hurt as bad as you would expect, given that they are needles. It feels kind of like a bee sting or a sunburn getting slapped. Nothing too bad.

The wrist is a really sensitive spot to get tattooed. Maybe consider a less tender spot for the next one. It won't be as painful.
