I was looking through my "Skincare Box" and found quite a few serums that I've yet to try. Obviously, I'm a huge believer in "The Serum". Do you Beauties use them? If so, which ones? And if not, why not?
I don't use a serum because they're meant to target specific areas of concern so they offer an extra boost to your skincare routine but if you already have a great routine you should be able to skip serums all together until one reaches their mid 30s :)
@Nidah Fair enough. though I actually started using serums when I was in my mid-20's. I've suffered from skin issues ever since I moved back to a humid climate after spending years in dry(er) Australia. It's cool that you can stay away for the time being.
@Kyle Does the serum help with dark spots left behind by break-outs? 'Cos that's my main issue and I'm always looking for that HG potion. Although, I should probably finish the serums I have before I think about getting another bottle. Hyuk!
I currently use Olay's Regenerist serum because i've been genetically blessed with premature wrinkles near my eyes (and i'm not even 20, wah!).
I also feel that prevention and routine are key to good skin in the future.
@Tessa Oh, no! That sucks. I've been blessed with a, ahem, rotund figure, shall we say and oily skin. Ah, genetics. What a crapshoot, eh? Sheesh.
It's good that you're taking preventative steps. What you do now will affect what your skin (and body) looks like in the future. I was a bit of a jock and spent quite a bit of time training in the sun when I was in my teens. Luckily, my Mom kept pestering me to use sunscreens and proper skincare, which I used intermittently, I admit. But I think it helped. My skin isn't as bad as it should be.
Now, I'm a total product fiend. Love my serums! And I've heard good things about Olay Regenerist.
I love serums and I depend on them big time. @Lex if you are looking to get rid of dark spots due to break-outs I would start out with a 10% glycolic acid serum or a BHA clarifying serum which is a mix of glycolic, lactic and salicylic acids. Use only one of these for three nights straight sealing it with a moisturizer (you cannot use this every single night unless you love the look of tight thin skin with a shine). I started using serums when I was 20 (Estee Lauder Fruition was my gateway into the world of serums) and I never go without one in the evening.
@Nidah Serums make for great prevention tools. They just aren't meant for targeting issues after the fact. Take hyaluronic acid for example. It helps prevent healthy cells from losing water and it creates a smooth appearance of healthy skin. It also extends the benefits of your evening moisturizer at night. Plus, it makes for soothing the skin if you spent a day at the beach and your skin is feeling a bit rough. I have oily/combo skin and during the hottest times of the year here in FL it has equalized my oil production without having to depend on a bunch of matte primers and setting powders. There are some great serums for prevention and some for correction. I'd rather deal with it at the prevention level than wait around for the correction products.
I use a lot of serums and I think it's better than cream if u prefer light and gel textures. Serums are not about the ages. It's about concern and what texture u prefer.
I'm definitely a serum girl! Currently I'm using Skin Beautiful Triple Action Vitamin C Serum and Replenix Power of Three Serum. I find I do better layering rather than slathering on 1 heavy cream. Plus I get the added goodies of whatever gets layered (I hope anyway!).

I use an acne serum by dermadoctor, I love it! It's kind of that extra oomph! That I use throughout my skin care routine :)
