Hello Dolls.... I have been working on starting my own Cosmetics line and securing the business side is complete (Licensing,Business plan, obtaining Funding) ... Now i am dead stomped on whether to go with a Private Labeling Company or Manufacturer.. Either way i want to create or tweak the formulas for my products to have the image/vision i desire but i could use a few secondary opinions.... What do you Dolls Think
Is it Logical to go with a Private labeling Company and have a successful company that stands out from the rest????? (Any tips, Advice?????) Steps I should take
Ok, I'm going to be honest and say I know nothing about business stuff like this. But the word "private" tells me that YOU would have more control over YOUR company/product, so if it were me I think I'd go that way, or at least start there!
It really comes down to 2 things- money and level of customization....If you have/want completely unique formulas then you'll want to go with a manufacturer. However, costs will be much higher, you'll pay by the hour just to get if formulated (may not come out right 1st time), samples of the finished product, filling fees, plus packaging/labeling are solely your responsibilty- seperate cost, you drop ship to them but pay to fill and label and minimum runs are usually high. If budget is a concern, you can find private label w/lower minimums, some will offer customization to stock bases and they usually do packaging/labeling in-house. Private label can be a good way to start, especially if you want to test your products before investing in excessive inventory, then as your company grows, you can always move to have your products custom manufactured.
