Well, I'm thinking back a looong time on this, but I had a different notebook or section of notebook for each class with a matching folder. And they were color coded to match my book covers. So all my math stuff was red, English was blue, etc. this way when I was grabbing things out of my locker at the end of the day it was easier to make sure I had the right books.
Also a homework planner/day planner never goes amiss. Something little you can have in each class to write down what is assigned/due when. (I'm sure there's an app for that now, but I'm 33. We used paper in the olden days.)
For taking notes, try not to right *too* much down. If you try to wrote everything the teacher says you lose stuff. Key words are good, as long as you can remember why you wrote them later. Also, if you don't have assigned seats, sit front and center in your most boring classes. It forces you to focus. In college, I could trust myself to sit in the back when I was interested, but if it was a class that I had zero interest in taking I staked out a seat up front in day one.
Good luck!!!
