if you really don't know what you were doing, i would recommend going to a professional. because even though you dyed your hair black to cover up the red, the red is still there. and to strip the black from your hair might be hard. i am not a professional. but this was told to me by a friend that has a cosmetology license. you never remove the hair colors you previously have. you just cover them up.

Getting black out is really difficult and you can do serious damage if you don't know what you are doing. I'm going to second Christina. Go to a pro. Figure out what color you want to end up at, bring a pic with you. Tell the colorist *exactly* what you have done to your hair. Corrective color can be difficult and expensive so schedule a consult first.

Follow what Kelly G. said and make sure you tell the stylist your hair history and how you take care of it. That will help them figure out how to do your hair without further damaging it.
