My only advice is to not let Artistry School kill your creativity. Theyre gonna wanna tell you how something has to be done a certain way. Listen to your instructors and do projects as you should but make sure that you stick to your talent and keep it close.
I always meet artists who say that they lost theyre 'identity' after artistry school because it was too generalized. They got it back though. lol
Hey Im Chelsea, Im 18 and am in the same spot your in. Graduating next year and Applying to MUD for school in NYC. I found the Bobby Brown Makeup Manual Helped SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO MUCHH! I got it at Barns N Noble for less th $15. It not only has basic make up tips like about brushes and application, but in the back there is a whole section on how to get into the industry and Names, Locations, and Phone Numbers of Agancies looking for new artists! Good Luck! Keep in touch!

Cosmetology school is A trying experience. But you have to remember that you can get through it and all the greats started the same way. Teachers are going to tell you specific ways to do things but remember its the rnd result that matters. Im in school right now so feel free to contact me if you have specific questions.
PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE take pics of your work to build your portfolio.. look on blogs YouTube etc so that you wont go into a makeup situation BLIND you can also learn a lot so that you wont be behind you will already be ahead ^_^ GOOD LUCK!!!!
