Hi lovelies. I am just starting out and don't know if I should buy a makeup kit or buy things individually? I would also like to buy a brush set. I would like to buy everything all at once ideally but want my moneys worth of everything! Any good sets I should get? or make a list and buy everything individually? Help please!

I don't really know your price limit, but MAC has a really good kit for make up artists. And also you can just start by getting your basics, foundation, concealer, blush, eyeshadow, etc. Check out the website coastal scents, they have good quality stuff. Also look at sigma for brushes & sedona lace. Good luck (:

I myself am starting out as well but I think it is better to buy things individually as it provides a variety of finished and for me at least is more economical. Also, buying things from different brands helps you meet the clients requirements as I have heard that some MAC foundation causes breakouts :/

are you in the US? If so, get a brush set by ELF, Sonia Kasuk (target) and or Eco Tools( various pharmacies). They are cheap and pretty good quality. You can also just put in an order to coastal scents or BH cosmetics, there you can by 100 plus eyeshadow palettes and brushes at amazing prices. I LOVE coastal scents brushes and their smokey eye palette. All in all i think you should grab a brush set, and a quality eyeshadow palette to start. DO NOT get any of the large elf palettes as they suck, trust me. BH cosmetics 3rd edition is one of my favs. I also love all of the Wet n' Wild palettes. Trust me, I'm all about beauty on the cheap and ONLY use the cheap stuff and it works great

I totally agree with Jordan L, I made the mistake of buying a bunch of extravagant eye makeup products and lip colours (before I even got my portfolio together) before I focused on thinking about the base. Attending college taught me otherwise. I'm still glad that I have all my colourful shadows and unusual lip colours, but I've ended up using the majority of them for myself since although that might be what YOU'RE into it's not what the 'conventional beauty' look is about.

MAC have good quality products but when it comes to higher-end companies, they are actually cheaper than a lot of them, e.g. Lancome, NARS, Bobbi Brown. Here in the UK they do a starter kit for around £150 if that's any use :) depending on your preference you might want to buy products from a variety of brands though.

I'm looking to spend about 400$ all together.. Just for starts. I want my money's worth definitely! Now if I were to buy the foundations individually, how many would be suitable? Or At least once I can work with and mix to adapt? Thank you all! This is helping me tons!

I've heard from many people that's the way to go. Thank you so much! You were incredibly helpful. I'm going to look into the stilazi brushes as well!

I wanted to purchase the MUFE kit they have various ones that I believe start off at about 400. I spent three months trying to get MUFE to send me the kit before my school started (they kept saying it was in stock then out of stock then it'll be in stock next week every time I called for 3 months even AFTER they already had my credit card info) So I instead got the MAC student kit which was nice but I'm sure there are better kits on the market.

Zuca!!!! I have a video in my page telling you why this I the best kit for makeup artists! :)
