HI GIRLS
so i am really interested to attend imats and im gonna save up, any tips and share something about imats
like what are the things going on there
how big the discounts
what airline
what hotel
what should i do as a first timer to imats
omg i just can't wait to finish saving up and go to imats
a beauty lover's dream is to be stepping their feet on the imats Grounds so yeah tell me about it! <3
My first IMATS was last year in Sydney & it was amazing. I'm going back this year!
Some of my tips are:
Top tip is to get there early! I arrvied last year an hour after it opened and people were already forming big lines for Mac, etc. This year I'll be there as the doors open, haha.
Look at the timetable that you should get in your bag when you enter (they usually have the timetable up on the imats website anyway), plan which shows you want to go to and find a good seat early. You can learn so much from them, so maybe take a pad & pen.
Have in mind which makeup artists you would like to meet there & take your camera so you can have your photo taken with them. Maybe ask them a burning question you have about makeup. I got to meet my idol Rae Morris :)
As an IMATS exhibitor, I'd say you're probably going to be overwhelmed your first time. Before you make any purchases, try to have a look at each booth and look for things that you've been wanting. Then prioritize them based on your needs, and go around to find out whom you want to purchase from. Many products will be redundant throughout many booths while others will be exclusive. Set a budget for yourself and try not to go over it. One good way to do it is to take cash, and leave your plastic in the car. This way you don't go over budget. Also make time for the classes and seminars, they're usually really good and informative.
I want to go to IMATS so bad, and I live right here in NYC! Unfortunately, the work schedule wouldn't allow it this year. I am a DEFINITE attender for next year, though. Thanks so much for the advice, guys!
@Katie - highly discounted for the most part. That's how trade shows do so well! Some brands offer 40% off and higher.
Great advice from all - I will say that arriving early is key. Be patient and try to see everything - a lot of people regret that they missed out on certain things because they were rushing.
Try to look at brands that you don't normally have access to - that's sometimes where you'll find the best products;)
As an IMATS exhibitor, I will say that these brands put a lot into the shows - so be respectful of their space. Be supportive of them and other shoppers at the show - it's a small industry, after all! Keep bringing love and these shows will grow!
I second that, early arrival is key and if you identify something that you want/need...GET IT, before it is too late. We had more than 50 people who came to our booth in NYC last week looking for our Stilazzi cases...but we sold out really fast. We also sold a floor model compressor and gun combo for $150 ($350 value) and one girl couldn't make up her mind and wanted to take a lap to think about it. Meanwhile, someone else came and jumped on it. They were both brand new, taken out of the box not two hours before. If you see a good deal, chances are so will many other people, so jump on it before it is too late!!! =)
I have to vent. I've already paid for my plane ticket, I confirmed my tickets for Saturday and Sunday but apparently I can't go Friday (PRO event) because it's now closed to the press. Had I known I wouldn't be allowed to go Friday (I can't get a Pro card because I'm not qualified under their strict qualifications since I live in a rinky dink area so no unions, comp cards, or anything like that)... I wouldn't have paid for my hotel and plane ticket. Frustrating because I'm already out over $1,000 since this was to be my vacation as well!
If you want to see any speakers it's a good idea to make a schedule of who you want to see since they are booked at the same time as others. I ended up missing half of them because I was caught up in socializing/shopping/recording, but It did help.
The two closest hotels are the Sheraton (across the street) and the Hilton (a block away) I believe. Bring comfortable shoes because you WILL be sore, of course I'm not taking my advice and I am bringing heels.
I agree with Matt, bring cash or else you'll blow your budget!!
@Yasmin - You only wanted to go to the pro event? I think there's much more to IMATS than just Friday. Saturday and Sunday have a lot to offer because of all the speakers, demos, competitions, and many other vloggers/bloggers walking around.
To be honest, the pro event is really the booths selling products without the people. Other than that, you're not missing much. I went to the pro event, picked up the stuff I absolutely wanted and left. I enjoyed Saturday and Sunday so much more than just picking up products.
@Yasmin enjoy California while you are down here...there is a lot to do, since this is your vacation as well. Go shopping on Melrose, or Downtown. If you go shopping at the pro event, you'll probably pick up everything you want if you aren't there to socialize or see bloggers. Saturday and Sunday are more fun anyways, since you get to go to classes, and see everyone.

I have a question about IMATS as well, are the items usually discounted or are they the same price as normal?
