the tips of my hair, a good 2 inches is always dry, brittle, and ratted together. Even if i straighten it or curl it, though it looks better, brushing it is pure hell. I have cut my hair a good 8 inches already, and no matte how much i cut off this keeps happening. Has this ever happened to anyone ??

Do you use a lot of heat styling? It's probably damaged your ends. I use a lot of heat on my hair and I always use a heat protectant before I style. Unfortunately, with heat styling, you're always going to damage your hair to some extent. I just try to do everything I can to keep that extent to a minimum!
Try getting a trim every month just to keep the ends as healthy as you can. If you really want to heal your hair, stop the heat styling for awhile, if you can stand it. (I couldn't!)
Also, when you're curling your hair... don't spray your hair with hairspray before you curl it. Do it after! (I'm not saying you do this, but some people do and it makes the curl look bad and crinkly.)
Try not to use tons of product on your hair (sprays, gels, etc.) It builds up over time.
DO deep condition if you don't already. I use the Macadamia Oil one that a lot of people rave about and I love it. Try using it just on your ends and leaving it in overnight. Just baby them! You don't have to chop your hair off! =]

YES. CUT YOUR HAIR! Its damaged! if you just leave it be, it`ll only get worse! I used to have the same problem as you, i used to never cut my hair, but when i went to the hair dresser they said they have to cut it! do your hair a favor, cut the dead 2 inches off, and with the new trimmed ends, baby them! baby the ends!

Cut your ends off and oil them with coconut oil. All the heat and styling products you're using on it is damaging as well as drying your hair out. If you don't cut it, your ends will begin to split if they already aren't, and the split ends will only travel higher up. Baby your hair and do it a favor.

I had the same problem and i had to cut the damaged part :( I thought it was better to have my hair short but healthy, instead of long and damage ! :D

Cutting it is your best option. I know, it hurts! But honestly, it's better to have short, healthy looking hair than longer damaged looking hair...that never looks good. And it will grow...just be nice to your hair and scalp, and take vitamins such as fish oils and Biotin. I take Viviscal vitamins...they are costly, but they work! My hair grows about 2 inches (or more) per month.

Another thing to reduce heat styling is to use dry shampoo so you don't have to wash your hair as often. It minimizes damage from blow drying, if you do blow dry often.
Maybe cut as much as you can bear to see gone. You will notice the difference and love that your hair looks healthier.

It's never fun, but cutting is the best option because it will just wind up getting more damaged. Then, keeping up with a trim every month or two will help to stop that from happening again.

I'm a licensed hair stylist and people usually tell me "my hairs so damaged I need to cut it" Yes you can cut away the damaged hair but if you don't treat your hair the problem will never be solved. I do a fair amount of straightening and curling to my hair but I make sure I protect it as much as I can. Also, I do deep conditioners 2 to 3 times a month. I have very long, thickish hair and I only cut it once a year. Maybe a month before I cut it the ends start to look on the dry side. I think you will start to see a difference if you use some treatments on your hair, and maybe you won't see the dry ends and have to cut as often. hope this helps =)

Sometimes showering everyday can damage and dry out your hair so maybe do it every other day or longer. Another thing that can dry you hair is swimming a lot in clorine water. Somethings that may help is tea tree oil and/or argan oil. Argan oil works really good for me( I have dry hair to)
