I've had nails whose layers peel for awhile. I looked it up and found that dehydration and poor diet might be to blame- and I deal with both of those issues. I don't wear polish all the time (although I want to get more into it), so I know its not due to any nail laquers/ products. Does anyone else get this nail peeling too? I think I heard that its pretty common. I'm not super worried, but it would be nice to figure out how to help make my nails healthy, especially if I get more into nail art.

Improving your diet is key so if you're not drinking enough water and/or eating properly this is definitely going to effect the way your nails grow. Also, other things that could be causing your nail plate to peel are: harsh polish removers, not wearing gloves when using detergents or cleaning supplies, filing the nail plate too harshly and not conditioning your nails and cuticles. Although the nail plate is actually dead it still needs to be taken care of so make sure you keep your hands, nails and cuticles moisturized. Stay away from harsh nail polishes and removers and try nail hardeners and top coats to strengthen your nails.
If the problem persists or gets worse I'd definitely seek the advice of a physician. I hope this helps.
